Can't comment on the DVD but I remember this VERY well from the early 80s VHS. In fact, my mates and I used to rent this at least 4 or 5 times a year - for the FANTASTIC gore fx by maestro Tom Savini.
The plot, a maniacal, homicidal GI (in full army gear with helmet and face mask) allowed for many gruesome deaths; bayonet through the top of the head, pitchfork through TWO bodies, a throat cut under water and the best exploding head via sawn off shotgun effect I have seen, even up to now!
I don't even think the VHS was fully uncut, despite the plentiful splatter - I will buy this DVD asap IF I know for sure, that this is at least as bloody as the VHS of my teenage years.
File with The Burning and My Bloody Valentine - VERY similiar movies in gore, themes, characters and killers!
