Was watching a documentary about the awesome Tom Savini last week and they showed clips of The Prowler from 1981...just had to get it!

Released in the UK as Rosemary's Killer, it's your basic stalk n slash flick much in the same vein as Friday 13th/The Burning ect. The difference here is that the killings are super gory!! And no cut-away's either, showing the unique talents of Savini in all it's glory. Some of the killings had me want to look away as compared to other movies they are quite disgusting, but hey, that's what we watch movies like this for right??!! There are some genuinely creepy moments too, it ain't all about the gore.

This Optimun release boasts a super sharp widescreen transfer and the sound is very clear too. No extras on this UK release. I haven't seen this movie before but it says on the back cover that this is released uncut for the first time on DVD. To be honest, this wouldn't have been passed by the BBFC back in 1981 unless some of these scenes were cut.

So glad I bought this to add to my horror collection. I still have to get The Burning, but if anybody can recommend some other lesser-known classics then feel free to comment!

Can't comment on the DVD but I remember this VERY well from the early 80s VHS. In fact, my mates and I used to rent this at least 4 or 5 times a year - for the FANTASTIC gore fx by maestro Tom Savini.
The plot, a maniacal, homicidal GI (in full army gear with helmet and face mask) allowed for many gruesome deaths; bayonet through the top of the head, pitchfork through TWO bodies, a throat cut under water and the best exploding head via sawn off shotgun effect I have seen, even up to now!
I don't even think the VHS was fully uncut, despite the plentiful splatter - I will buy this DVD asap IF I know for sure, that this is at least as bloody as the VHS of my teenage years.
File with The Burning and My Bloody Valentine - VERY similiar movies in gore, themes, characters and killers!

This is up there with The Burning and Maniac as one of the best slashers of the period. Worth a watch!
