Having enjoyed the TV series and bought the DVDs, my husband thought I would enjoy the soundtrack from the series. I'm not one to listen to music as a general rule but gave it a go nonetheless. Am I glad I did! From start to finish this album is sheer perfection......

This CD soundtrack from the ludicrous but lovely detective series has some exquisite music. Christopher Gunning's pastoral arrangements are reminiscent of the best of Ralph Vaughan Williams. Most pieces include somewhere in them elements of "Scarborough Fair", which of course forms the basis of the theme music, presented here as the "Rosemary and Thyme Caprice". A number of other classical and folk pieces are woven in to produce a truly beautiful orchestral album. The only downsides are inclusion of bits of dialogue from the TV series. It does help root the piece in its context, but jarrs slightly when listening to the relaxing music. The darker pieces, played when our heroines are in danger or on the trail of the evildoers is balanced out with the lighter and frothier pieces. A lovely CD all in all, by one of our greatest composers.
Wow! This CD is one of my favorites. It's so relaxing and lovely. If you have the TV series on CD and you love Felicity Kendel and Pam Ferris in the title roles...then you have to buy this! The series is so well done. When are the gals coming back to do more? My husband and I want more 'Rosemary and Thyme'.
