5.0 out of 5 stars Fragile, Heart Sinking Music....., 11 Mar 2004

Mr. J. Sutton (Manchester) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Rose (Audio CD)
I first noticed this CD because of it's sleeve; which is a complete rip off of the sleeve for 'Pet Shop Boys - Release'. Then in a strange coincidence, Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys actually recommended this album and I decided to buy it for a very reasonable price. This album is so beautiful, it actually enhances your life and makes you feel uplifted. Hecker's vocal style is hauntingly similiar to Rufus Wainwright and Jeff Buckley and could even be compared to Morten Harket of A-Ha. The music style is slow and mainly guitar/piano based, a bit like Coldplay before they became U2 Style sell-outs. There are variations on that sound, with 'Daylight' sounding a bit like Pet Shop Boys and 'My love for you is insane' embracing Drum and Bass. It is a lengthy album with four songs lasting over 6 minutes, but one that is certainly worthy of your attention.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful..., 18 Jan 2004

...is what this album is. Fragile, melodic, pale but not fey, it's a huge leap from Hecker's first offering, "Infinite Love Songs". If whoever releases this album in the UK bothers to listen to it, they might even realise that track 3, "That's what you do", could even be a hit! And a lot of bored Coldplay fans might get to find an exquisite alternative from Germany. Which would be nice.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Rose is Not a Tulip...., 4 May 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Rose (Audio CD)
Mr Heckers 2nd album is very good indeed. Not quite as good as the debut 'Infinite Love Songs' which was heart-stoppingly beautiful. A hard act to follow. Nonetheless this is an album full of more exquisite songs of love and longing. And I love the fact that a mainstream artist such as PSB cites Mr Hecker as an influence and even goes so far as to base their subsequent album cover on ROSE (so named because of the final track Rose) but with a twise, a Tulip instead of a Rose.
