Extraordinary adaptation of Pilcher's book.
Abby, the grandaughter, Paula Kaulenberg, appears to be dubbed in places. The acting from both leading ladies and Tom Conti is very wooden and stilted. Michael York struggles to keep afloat. None of the characters are remotely believable with the exception of the great aunt.
'Abby' is supposed to be part of the English landed gentry therefore her obviously foreign accent, which on occasion is certainly dubbed, jars. It makes it hard to concentrate on the veeeeeeeeery slow plot.
