Product Description

Product Description

Rosacea, also called "adult acne" or "acne rosacea," is a facial skin condition marked by a recurring redness on the cheeks, nose, chin, or forehead. Left untreated, the redness becomes more permanent, and, in advanced cases, the nose may become bumpy, red, and swollen from excess tissue. In some cases, the eyes also may be affected, and the condition can result in vision loss. Rosacea cannot be cured, but its symptoms can be greatly reduced and its progression arrested through medical treatment and lifestyle modifications. This guide offers readers detailed information about what what factors contribute to a flare-up and how the condition can be treated. The authors provide a checklist to help readers identify their own individual triggers and go on to describe the latest medical and alternative treatments and explain the importance of nutrition's role in controlling the condition. A final chapter for readers whose self-confidence and self-esteem are suffering as a result of the disorder suggests strategies for bringing symptoms under control and dealing with social situations when flare-ups occur.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully helpful book for rosacea sufferers., 25 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Rosacea: Your Self-help Guide (Paperback)
This book made a lot of sense to me. I'm not interested in a lot of theories about what causes rosacea, because I know that will keep changing. And I'm not interested in a quick drug fix, which doesn't exist anyway. I like that the authors deal with rosacea in a very natural and healthful way that I can use always. And I especially like their suggestions on how to make rosacea no longer the focus of my life. And lastly, I am thrilled about how my face looks after struggling with this illness for the past seven years. It looks great! If rosacea is ruling your life, do yourself a favor and get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Help for "Rosaceans", 23 April 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Rosacea: Your Self-help Guide (Paperback)
Three cheers for Dr. Brownstein for this very helpful book, an all-in-one-resource for the "rosaceans" of this world. Rosacea, sometimes called "adult acne" and always dismaying to those afflicted with it, is typified by the appearance of red discoloration in the cheeks, and the development of acne like lesions on the face. Like many who develop this disorder, I made the rounds of doctors who prescribed antibiotics and other nostrums without much effect. Now, at last, a book with real, practical solutions for overcoming what can be an emotionally devastating disease in our "face value" society. Written with equal parts scientific rigor and simple wisdom, "Rosacea: Your Self Help Guide" is an especially useful compendium of information about what "triggers" rosacea, what foods to avoid and to consume, what treatments can actually help, and many other useful ideas. It is written with compassion, simplicity and a good deal of humor. Dr. Brownstein's great advantage, perhaps, is that she has herself overcome her own rosacea. In this gem of a book, she shows you the same path. The millions of rosaceans are in her debt.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more red face, 4 April 2003
This review is from: Rosacea: Your Self-help Guide (Paperback)
This book has been wonderful for me. Following the nutritional guidelines that emphasize nutrients that are anti-inflammatory have made all the difference in my appearance. I find that I rarely flush any more. This book, with its emphasis on a natural approach fits with my philosophy of health care. It gives me a path I can follow forever, knowing that it will benefit my whole being. I'm very thankful to the authors.
