3.0 out of 5 stars A study of the lifestyles of Brendan Ingles boxers, 29 Jan 2001
By acowdrey@cpwp.co.uk (Nott'm , England) - See all my reviews
This book tells a series of stories involving the authors experiences with boxers. The stories go together to describe the lives and personalities of some of the boxers connected to a gym in Sheffield.

The gym is owned by the trainer Brendan Ingle - who trained Herol Graham and Prince Naseem. Consequently, much of the book is dedicated to these two famous fighters.

This book is very readable, and gives a good insight into the world of dedication, celebrations and deep despair which must surround the lives of professional boxers. The author, like many of us, fancies himself as having some potential as a fighter. As he learns more about the gym members, he concludes that these boxers are a different breed. Their boxing is not a sport or a hobby, it is a way of life and is completely alien to the author, and to most of us.

The book does not make gripping reading, but should be an interesting read to anyone interested in boxing.
