For technical prowess I prefer the 68-73 era Elvis but this blew my socks off. I can see why critics said he couldnt sing (actually he could he was just not profficient technically like crooners)and heavens the pre-ironed out by Hollywood accent must have shocked manhattan metropolitan critics but this is valuable history. It shows a young kid thumbing his nose at what had gone before and captured the vitality and audience response. Despite the sleeve note the technical quality is good too, way better than might be expected, and so we have a slice of what it was that made Elvis Elvis! Great fun, great vitality, and clearly they were all having fun either side of the footlights.
