4.0 out of 5 stars The story continues... 16 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Book 2 continues Quinn's story from where it left off in the first book, although billed as a YA novel it has a charm that will captivate older readers too. I would not normally consider myself a fan of 'fantasy' type novels but the world into which we are taken is an old fashioned and simplified version of our own world, where no-one has special powers and chivalry and helping others is very important. There is an element of adventure in the story but it is very much how the characters react and develop as the story continues that is the big draw, and the romantic element is well written without anything that would be inappropriate for the age group it is intended for. As the story continues from book to book where the last one left off, it is best if they are read in the order they were written - I highly recommend them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Read 22 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love love love this series, Roots of Insight takes up where Seeds of Discovery finished. Quinn has a lot to deal with and struggles with keeping her secret about Eirentheos a world she can visit. I love how Eirentheos is described in such great detail along with each and every character, you really get a feel for them. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and am off to read number three :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Left me breathless... 9 Jan 2012

Oh WOW! Just finished and I feel like I can't breathe. SOOOOO GOOD! Even better than the first story. This series is so refreshing and was unexpectedly brilliant. This second book in the Dusk Gate Chronicles picks up right where the first book leaves off. Quinn's relationships between friends, family, and the princes are even more complicated and get downright juicy. Struggles between the royals, hidden agendas, and some surprising characters are just some of the things encountered in this second edition. Leaves off with a HUGE cliffhanger that had me screaming WAIT....WHAT???? Brilliant, Amazing, Enchanting...can't say enough praises! I will be anxiously awaiting the next book:)

5.0 out of 5 stars The journey continues... 19 Jan 2012

I want to begin by saying how much I adore the world Breeana Puttroff has created! Having just recently finished "Seeds of Discovery," I couldn't wait to revisit Quinn Robbins and company in "Roots of Insight."

The second novel continues to build upon the world of Eirentheos and the relationships within. I found myself feeling instantly at home from the very beginning, which I feel is a testament to the care the author put into creating Eirentheos in the first book. The novel picks up shortly after the first ended, with Quinn still struggling to make sense of what has happened and get back into the groove of her life as a teenager in Bristle Cone. I won't risk saying more, for fear of spoiling the excitement, but suffice to say, Quinn and us readers are taken on another fantastic journey.

My favorite part of this series is how Puttroff puts enough into every character that we get a sense of them, even though we're not able to follow along with everyone. From the most dedicated servants in the castle to her closest companions, we feel we know them. They're not mere caricatures in this fantastic world. The reader always feels as though everyone has some important part in this unfolding story. A pleasant change.

If you haven't read the first book, it would be best to do so before picking up this gem. I'm very much looking forward to the third novel!

5.0 out of 5 stars It just keeps getting better 22 Feb 2013

This second book in The Dusk Gate Chronicles is every bit as amazing as the first. It begins with Quinn trying to adjust to being back home from her recent trip to a different world, Eirentheos. Will she and William (a classmate who also happens to be a prince from Eirentheos, and the reason she discovered another world to begin with) maintain the friendship they began, now that they're back on Earth? How is she supposed to just go about her mundane life when she was living a fairytale so recently? She's also reeling from her former childhood friend, Zander, pursuing her romantically. Our dear Quinn has a lot on her plate!

The romance develops pretty quickly between Quinn and Zander. I wouldn't call it instalove at all since they've known each other their whole lives. But Zander bothered me. He was a little possessive, a bit too intense, really early on. He doesn't get angry with Quinn, but I get the feeling that he would in the future. Or at least with a guy who he might feel threatened by.

Meanwhile, William has started ignoring Quinn completely. The anger boils over and Quinn unleashes it on him, demanding to know what his problem is. Turns out, William is severely distracted because his brother (and Quinn's dear friend), Thomas, has been missing for quite some time. Before Quinn left Eirentheos Thomas told her where he was going but she had no idea his trip would be so dangerous. Together, Quinn and William return to Eirentheos in search of Thomas.

The plot in ROOTS OF INSIGHT is a fair amount meatier than in the first book. Which is actually perfect as the first book eases you into the story without being overwhelming. There's some serious stuff coming in the future books.

Romance was pretty much non-existent in the first book, but there is some in ROI - not enough to weaken the plot, though. (Yes!) It does appear that there might be a love triangle forming in the near future... Or maybe not. I vote Quinn kicks Zander to the curb. Just saying. :)

Quinn is just as awesome in book two if not even more so. She takes charge at times, but is generally her loving, thoughtful, insightful self. Quinn has a keen eye for recognizing avoidance and secrecy, and she doesn't let people get away with it for long. Love, love, love Quinn. She's my new favorite heroine!

I really enjoyed getting to know William better. He is so incredible. And he complements Quinn perfectly. *ahem* Team William!!! They have similar personalities, but also have their differences - one makes up for the other one's weaknesses, and vice versa. Match made in Heaven people.

What more can I say? I have zero complaints. You should absolutely give these books a read. More than once. :) I'm off to dive into book three now; there's no way I'm waiting to find out what happens next.

**I purchased this book, however, I also received a copy from the tour host in exchange for an honest review. No incentive was offered or accepted for a favorable review or rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars She has done it again! 15 Feb 2012

Let me first say I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!! After reading Seeds of Discovery I was compelled to read Roots of Insight because Breeana Puttroff's characters sweep you into their story and hold you there. I love this world Quinn gets to visit, you can almost picture how lovely it is! Roots of Insight leaves you guessing with a cliffhanger endind and now I am counting the days for the third installment. Roots of Insight also brings a great mystery to life and you find yourself on the edge of your seat, reading furiously to come to the conclusion. Love it! You HAVE to check it out! I would veyr much like to see this series picked up and developed as a movie. Maybe the next big thing after Twilight? Or Harry Potter? You be the judge for yourself!
