Product Description

In May 2001, The National Trust held a major conference on garden conservation and restoration; many of those who provided papers for the conference have contributed to the book. Although the National Trust's gardens are world famous, the sheer depth and range of professional skills and work that is undertaken behind the scenes had never been fully recognised; this book rectifies this. Each chapter is by a different person, illustrating the variety of types of work and types of people involved. Case studies include current projects such as Hidcote Manor, Tatton Park and Knightshayes Court.

An enchanting down to earth read. 7 April 2003
By xeger - Published on
Rooted in history is a fascinating look at the management issues surrounding the National Trust gardens. Liberally scattered with gorgeous pictures, and full of enchanting case studies, it addresses garden conservation, restoration, growth and development. The writing is clear and inviting, and led me to read through the entire book at one sitting, as though being drawn from room to room in one of their enchating properties.
