Product Description

Product Description

The Pennyfoot hides many secrets and its downstairs staff keeps a tight lip, even when the Edwardian aristocrats are spotted dallying with damsels in the boudoirs, or gambling in the forbidden card rooms hidden below the floorboards. Should now and then one of the hotel guests fall prey to a dastardly murderer, however, it is up to Cecily Sinclair to restore order before Scotland Yard steps in and shuts down her infamous seaside hotel.

ROOM WITH A CLUE

Lady Eleanor Danbury thoroughly enjoyed the view of the ocean from the rooftop garden of the Pennyfoot Hotel, until someone pushed her over to fall four stories to her death. In order to keep secret the goings-on of her illustrious guests, Cecily takes on the task of tracking down a killer. There are no shortage of suspects, since Lady Eleanor managed to alienate everyone with whom she came in contact. That includes the downstairs staff of the hotel, the fellow aristocrats staying at the hotel, and even her own husband. Since Inspector Cranshaw of Scotland Yard is bound and determined to shut down the Pennyfoot and put a stop to all the hanky-panky, Cecily must work fast and be terribly discreet, or she might lose her home and her livelihood….

There are twenty-one books in the Pennyfoot Hotel series, including seven Christmas Editions.

The twenty-first and final Pennyfoot book, MULLED MURDER, one of Kingsbury’s beloved Christmas editions, was published in November 2013 by Berkley Books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Reading 12 Nov 2012

It is a good story and well written. The characters are old-fashioned which is in keeping with the setting. The story is well written, the setting beautiful. Very reminiscent of Agatha Christie, ie, no blood, guts or swearing. Over all though a good easy read that could be achieved in one sitting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different kind of mystery 26 Dec 2012

Enjoyed this book immensely. Set in the early 1900's you could imagine everyone in their dress of the time. Very good 'who done it'. Look forward to reading another Pennyfoot Hotel mystery.

I quite liked this book, nothing too complicated. I agree with the previous reviewers, the story was well written if a little sedate!
It passed a few hours but I did find it a tad predictable...I enjoyed it non the less.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good easy read 18 Nov 2012

Cecily Sinclair owns and runs the Pennyfoot hotel in Edwardian England. With the help of her dedicated staff the hotel has got a name for itself as a secluded get away for London's upper classes. Then the unthinkable happens, one of the guests, Lady Eleanor, is discovered dead on the patio. At first it appears to be a terrible accident, but as time goes on Cecily is left wondering whether if there is more to it than that.

I really enjoyed this book, it's what I call a cosy mystery. There isn't masses of action but the story is strong enough that you don't get bored. I really liked the descriptive setting and found it easy to imagine what Pennyfoot was like. The characters are all well written and each is different from the next with their mannerisms and ways of speaking. All round a good read.
