5.0 out of 5 stars Does a lovely job 13 Aug 2013
By David Chambers TOP 1000 REVIEWER

I have taken delivery of a grade A Teak garden bench for our residents association. The wood, although apparently 'treated' looked very natural and quite pale, so I thought I'd try a single coat of Ronseal Teak Oil just to give it a good start in life.

First thought was 'should I put the bench together and oil it afterwards or oil the component parts now before assembly'. My neighbour persuaded me to work on the components and I'm glad she did because it's a dead weight and doing each piece separately was much more manageable.

First a good dusting off with a brush to get rid of any dust and natural surface powder which teak tends to create when stored in a box. Then find an old cotton tee shirt and cut a piece big enough to bunch into an application pad. Poured some oil into a small bowl and off I went.

WOW! was my first reaction as the true richness and colour of the natural wood came to life with each stroke of the pad. Although a bench with all its slats is quite fiddly to work on, especially when trying to work the oil into every joint and crevice, I found the whole experience very relaxing and enjoyable ... assisted no doubt by a few whisky and dry gingers which are essential to a task like this. ;o)

That was yesterday and having checked it this morning, the wood is about 95% dry but still smells quite strongly of the oil. No doubt it will be completely dry by the weekend when I shall have help to assemble this monster of a bench. The teak is now a beautiful rich golden honey colour and looks so much better than the wood in its natural state.

I expect the bench to need some TLC next spring and I shall certainly be using Ronseal Teak Oil again. Superb product.

5.0 out of 5 stars That Time of the Year Again 15 Jun 2011
By S. Thomas #1 HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
I noticed that my garden furniture was looking slightly tired and decided to take advantage of a brief spell of good weather to rejuvenate it again. After the hated part of the job, that of sanding and cleaning, it was time for the best part (if there is such a thing); painting on the teak oil!

I thought teak oil was teak oil and there would not be much to choose between one type and another and so I started off using a low cost option. A 500ml bottle was sufficient to put one coat on a 3-seater bench but the coverage seemed patchy, even after a second and third coat had been added. I therefore decided to try a Ronseal oil to coat a matching pair of chairs and a table. I have to admit I was amazed at the difference.

The first coat was still slightly patchy, albeit to a lesser extent, but the second coat provided a much better finish and the third coat resulted in furniture that looked as good as when it was first delivered.

The oil is touch-dry in about 6 hours but drying overnight between coats is recommended. In my case, 1 litre was sufficient to put one coat on two chairs and a small 50cm square table, including the undersides. It took about 1.5 litres to put three coats on a bench. In other words, I needed to buy an awful lot more teak oil than I had anticipated to apply three coats to all of my furniture.

The finish I achieved using Ronseal oil on my chairs and table was far superior to that of the other oil on my bench - to the extent I will be applying a further coat of Ronseal to the bench. I don't think I'll take the chance of trying any other brands of teak oil in the future - this one has produced a good finish and looks as though it should last a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended for plain timber outdoor furniture. 24 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase
My heavy wooden chairs and bench were treated timber, but the weather had worn away the surface. After four liberal applications of this, using an old, dry dishcloth, the garden furniture is visibly repelling water again. You need to wear old clothes as it's prone to splash when you rub it on - also allow a good twenty minutes after each application before you sit on the furniture. This is for 'naked' wood rather than painted wood, and it really does rejuvinate it - turns it slightly darker, but not unattractively so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Garden Furniture Maint. 27 April 2014

Great product for helping to preserve wooden tables and chairs taht don't get brought in for winter. still used a stoage cover during winter, but use Teak Oil with 3 coats a day apart to give maximum protection from sun/rain etc. Liquid warnings and protection information is very good advice. Not forgetting disposal requirements and guidelines.

Excellent for all seasons protection of timber garden furniture. Our dining set is left uncovered through all the winter - come rain and snow, but the teak oil helps to repel the moisture and preserve the wood. Thanks Ronseal.

Have not used this yet, as still using up my last drop from previous purchase.
Better than Linsed oil on some woods, as it doesn't stain wood Yellow quite so much.
