Book Description

17 Nov 2011
Having been released from prison on compassionate grounds in August 2009, this is considered by Ronnie Biggs to be the final chapter of his life story. This book covers events in the Author's life following the Great Train Robbery in August 1963, the Trial, his escape from HMP Wandsworth, his time on the run around the World. Marriages and families and his continued freedom leading to celebrity status are explained. This all leads up to the return to England and prison, with worsening health and subsequent release on compassionate grounds the book is seen by Ronnie as an opportunity to face up to regrets, give thanks, and to tell the story of his life and experiences.

Product Description

Review

Of all the celebrities releasing autobiographies this Christmas, at least Ronnie Biggs actually has a story to tell. --The Independent, November 18, 2011

`Though it pains me to say it, I enjoyed the book, and I think a lot of other people will too,'
--Det Chief Superintendent Jack Slipper, ex-Head of the Flying Squad. Daily Express

From the Author

Ronald Biggs, who I have known since the early 1980s, is a remarkable man with a remarkable story to tell. A survivor who time and time again beat the odds that were stacked against him.
Ronnie Biggs, despite what some sections of the media would like you to believe, is not a modern-day folk hero because of what he did in the early hours of the morning of August 8, 1963, but rather for the manner in which he - your basic man in the street - kept himself one step ahead of the government and media posse which chased him around the world since his daring escape from Wandsworth Prison in July 1965.

As Ron told the media at the launch of "Odd Man Out: The Last Straw": "The book is my voice. And it is very important to me. So please read it and don't just put it on the bookshelf to gather dust. It is my life, through my eyes. No lies, no spin, or whatever you call it. What you will find in the pages of this book is what happened to me, so please don't tell me it isn't."
Have an opinion on Ronnie Biggs - good or bad - but please base that opinion on fact and not the fiction that has often been written and published about Ron and the Great Train Robbery. Who Ronnie Biggs actually is, and what he did in his life can be found in the pages of "Odd Man Out: The Last Straw".
Please read Ron's autobiography, but as you do remember that however remarkable the story appears to be, what you are reading is fact and not fiction. It is also the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth as far as Ron can remember. But as has been clear since Ron's return to the UK in 2001, although there are people who claim they want the truth, there are others that simply can't handle it and must hang on to the myths that suit their version of events and of Biggs.
In case you had any doubts, Ronnie Biggs very much exists: he is not a myth. "Odd Man Out: The Last Straw" is his story. I hope you enjoy it.
(Chris Pickard)

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner 7 Feb 2012
Format:Hardcover
A great book by the man himself. A man with a real life story to tell. The book is a page-turner, with lots of stories, tales and facts about the life and times of Ronnie Biggs and the Great Train Robbery that you would never have known without reading this book. Laughs and tears. Can't wait for the film.
