Product Description

Oscar Nominated once again for THE DIVING BELL & THE BUTTERFLY, Ronald Harwood's position as one of our greatest living screenwriters is indisputable. His latest book, Ronald Harwood's Adaptations, is the first ever exclusively devoted to writing for the cinema from an Oscar-winning screenwriter. Here, the practice, not the theory, of scriptwriting is laid bare. This book does not tell you how to do it, but rather, how you can do it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A screenwriting book by a successful screenwriter!, 3 Aug 2007
By BH (Gillingham, Kent) - See all my reviews
This was more than I ever expected from a screenwriting book, it's great. Ronald Harwood, who's actually a major contemporary successful screenwriter, goes into mouth-watering detail about screenwriting in general as well as his approach to four of his selected films from start to finish. But one of the most eye-opening things, which I've never come across before in other books of this genre, is his inclusion of examples at the back of the book showing a straight comparison of how he turns other things into the actual screenplays. Examples of the selection process demonstrated is worth its weight in gold. This book should become a real classic. It's terrific.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ronald Hardwood <adaptations>, 13 Sep 2007
By incognito (inglaterra) - See all my reviews
I have the Sid Field and Robert McKee books which are quite good but I have always been worried that if I followed their advice I would end up like them - old and never having had a film of mine made. Ronald Harwood has so much good advice and helpful tips. Hopefully I will end up like him, in my 70's with an Oscar, 20 feature films to my credit and still working on epics like THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY and LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA. I wonder why other writers of Harwood's stature have never written a screenwriting book before. The only reason I have not given it 5 out of 5 is that I would have preferred a hardback as I am going to be using it so much over the next 30 years it will become dog-eared
