"'Travel writing's greatest double act... their Rome, Venice, Florence is passionate, informative, amusing and inspiring' - Mail on Sunday"

Product Description

This title offers a sublime introduction to the country, or a perfect multi-centre trip for travellers with limited time. It explores stately Rome, with its Colosseum and the Sistine Chapel; visits dreamy Venice, and the eternal romance of a gondola ride along its canals; and discovers Florence, bursting with more paintings, sculptures and monuments than anywhere in Italy. 'Italy dangles from the centre of western Europe like a Christmas stocking, stuffed to the brim with marvels, some as grand as Brunelleschi's dome over Florence cathedral, some as weird and unexpected as the pagan tombs buried underneath St Peter's in Rome, or Galileo's erect middle finger, carefully, significantly preserved in a reliquary in Florence's science museum.'

Three cities 25 Jan 2011
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
The best of three of Italy's most visited cities at your fingertips. Cadogan guides are concise, easy to carry around and contain all the information you need. This guide makes it easy to plan your trip. Discover more about museums and art - the focus of this guide. Find somewhere to eat and stay, consider the day trips. There are no photographs - so there is no relief from the text. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.

Good all round guide 20 Jan 2010
In planning my trip to Italy, I needed a book which would give me a good overview of the cities, with plenty of information about its attractions to plan the best use of my limited time there, but which would also fit easily into my hand luggage and take out when on the move. This book was on the borderline from a bulk point of view, but in other respects it covered a lot of the information very well. My only suggestions for improvement would be to slightly reduce the detail in the history of the cities and in the entries for the many churches and galleries in exchange for more coverage of other places of interest - such as major shops, restaurants and places of modern-day entertainment - and much better maps. However, having said that, I found the pages on the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and the Doge's Palace in Venice had enough detail that I had no need to buy any separate guides. Taking everything into account and having looked at several other guides, I'd recommend this as the one to have.
