My 7 year old son and I have enjoyed reading this together. The pictures are very engaging, with lots of little details to spot (e.g. a Gladiator saying "down boy" to a lion) and smile at. It is not anywhere near as gory as the Horrible History books, making it very suitable for younger readers (or parents of a delicate disposition like me). The page layout encourages you to explore, each topic is in an attractive bite sized chunk (a bit like reading a magazine). It has had my son asking if he can carry on reading by himself when it is really time for 'lights out'. There is enough content to keep both parents and children interested, without it becoming hard work. Highly recommended.
