Synopsis
"Romantik" presents classical romantic elements in outstanding examples of contemporary illustration, photography and graphic design. While making a clear reference to nineteenth century Romanticism, the book defines a current version of the term through its selections and presentation. The book features examples, which expand the forms of visual expression available in our computer-dominated world and which develop style elements that exist beyond the canon of forms used in the 1990s. In place of uncluttered surfaces and clean lines, colorful collages and ornaments are used to generate a feeling of warmth, closeness or commitment. Because the computer is firmly established as a creative tool, today's "Romantik" is pragmatic rather than dogmatic. At the same time, the book challenges the role of the computer in the design process, appealing to the romantic in all of us.

This book is literally stunning, there is not a single bad image/photograph/painting in it. There is so many different styles in the one book, yet they all manage to be hauntingly beautiful, fantastical and dreamy.Some of my favourites have to be the imaginative, almost pyschedelic graphic drawings, collages, and CD covers (from the like of Royskopp and the brilliant Goldfrapp). There is almost too much to talk about, but if you are a fan of imaginative ideas and perhaps bold linear drawings, then this is a good book for you. Also if you are a fan of the art of Alison Goldfrapp and the likes, I reckon you would lovee this book. It has the same sort of folky modern vibe, with inspiration from nature. Just Beautiful!!! Has to be my favourite book ever!

this book is full of life energy and feeling. it captures the difference esences of ramance supurbly. definately worth a flick through. with its dream like images with a hint of drama this is a must see.

Although the book was a little expensive, it contained very inspiring, "romantic" art. I especially enjoyed the collages and photo art. They are so artistic and different from anything else I've seen! (I suppose this review will be a little biased, seeing as this book is published in Germany and I'm obsessed with anything German ;).)
I highly recommend this book to artists, especially graphic designers, because all the art in this book have been completed on the computer. The only thing I think this book can be improved on is if the artists are actually introduced in a better way, and every one of them can write something about their art. I understand this is a mostly art display book though. This is a book that you will treasure always and will want to look over and over again. 1 of 3 people found the following review helpful:

Awesome book. Good for inspiration. You will see the artwork like mixing between vector base and photoshop, photocopied art work, wonderful vector based images, mix-media; collage using drawing style and photoshop etc. If you find something different from things you've seen, you should buy this book!
