I was genuinely surprised by this book as I have never really been interested in poetry in whatever form it takes. However, the book includes such a variety of different forms that as I read not only the poems but also the lives of the authors I began to get absorbed in all the aspects of literacy pieces that it offered. As yet I am only at the beginning of my study and have glanced through with interest, Soon I will pick a certain few to analyse and digest what it really is all about.
Much of the language spoken is a quaint form of English, notably by Shakespeare, however points of reference are explained in the Appendix and referring to this helps better demonstrates the context of the pieces. I can see from the text I have much work before me the book has given me a 'taste' but it seems that I may have to 'acquire' the taste to begin to enjoy its content.
