I just read this book with my 5 year old son for his bedtime story tonight. We have several of the books in this Usborne Series, and my son loves them. We read them again and again, and so does he on his own.
For any child with an enquiring mind, who loves to learn, and is beginning to read for themselves, these books take all kinds of subjects and deal with them in a very informative way, usually with great illustrations and clear understandable text. The Romans is no exception. The illustrations are drawn in this book, rather than photographic, but they are beautifully clear. There are facts about slaves, gods & goddesses, temples, aqueducts, banquets, and day to day Roman life, with sections on shopping, and the baths. A great source of fun (for boys) is the picture of roman toilets.
At the end is a glossary of terms, which helps readers remember the big words and their meanings. My son likes me to test him on these at the end.
I will be buying more in this series.
