The cult BBC comedy about the self-made millionaire who likes to keep it in the family...

Roman's Empire might have started as a caravan park but now it’s a multi-million pound leisure and travel agency, branching out to places people never knew they wanted to go. Like Somalia.

Roman has three beautiful daughters, one of whom used to be Leo’s girlfriend, until she returned from filming B-movie thriller The Squid (They're Killermari!) with a new boyfriend…

Can Leo prove himself better than the wang-shape pulling, rugger-loving Seb? Will his only ally, Jase, finally succeed in escaping Roman’s eldest daughter, Jenny and their child? Can Leo avoid dealing with the family’s strangest – and richest – member, the deeply-creepy, Uncle Jesus? Or, does Leo’s only hope of winning Nikki back lie in helping Roman build his theme park "Romania"?

Starring: Neil Dudgeon, Mathew Horne, Nicholas Burns, Montserrat Lombard, Carla Mendonça, Chris O’Dowd, Scarlett Rose Patterson, Sarah Solemani

Director: Elliot Hegarty. Executive Producer: Sophie Clarke-Jervoise
Producer: Ben Cavey.

There are many great British and Irish comedy series - Not Going Out, How Not to Live Your Life, Peep Show, Men Behaving Bady, One Foot in the Grave, People Like Us, Father Ted, etc. - but for me Roman's Empire is not one of them. I wanted to like it, especially since Chris Dowd, who is extremely funny in The IT Crowd and FM, is featured in the cast. But the humour and the pacing seemed off-kilter, and the characters were not fully realised.

In my opinion, the problem lies with the script. Some characters, like the love-crazed Japanese gardener and the "rugger bugger" macho guy who is aggressively in denial about his homosexuality are pushed too far towards cliche (even stereotype) to be interesting/memorable. The "Uncle Jesus" name gag is just childish. The father-daughter inc*st theme had darkly comic potential (and indeed there are some suitably creepy moments early on) but the whole business of the Romania theme park towards the end was a bit too much like Tom Sharpe below par. Well-made with good acting and solid productions values, but for me the script too often appeared immature, repetitive and ultimately the show was unsatisfying.

I love this show, how did it not get a second series?!?!?!?!

I can only describe it as the English 'Arrested Development'

Nuff said Arrested Development - Season 1 [DVD]

Never heard of it before so I took a chance and bought the DVD. Funniest series I've seen in ages! Dysfunctional does not begin to describe the bizarre nature of the Pretty family. A truly superb and off the wall British comedy that deserves far more attention. If you like such slightly surreal things as Spaced and Little Britain you'll love this.

Who knows, if enough people buy it they may make another series. BOSH!

I would have liked to know a little bit more about who Roman was before I bought this series. I did enjoy the series but found it hard to get to grips with the characters at first due to lack of information. Once into the series I thought it was light humour that just got sillier. A nice relaxing series.

The Show is quite Good. I have watched it before and it was better the last time. It's not a must-see but it's a pity there was only a single season. I enjoyed it. It was good. I would recommended this DVD to any body who wants to see the show or who would liek to own a DVD of the show or. I would recommending this show to very few people.

I saw it on T.V. and couldn't believe it didn't get a second series.

It was an original, well scripted, brilliantly acted and stupidly silly series which really hit the funny spot for me.

I could imagine it wouldn't be everybody's favourite but I would thoroughly recommend it.
