Book Description

15 May 2008

Having dealt with the skeletons in her closet - the Vatican witch hunters who wanted her dead and the FBI agents who wanted her to spend life in prison - Garnet Lacey is feeling pretty darn good about her life. But things are about to go wrong. Very wrong.

Just as Garnet is finally starting to feel settled in Madison and daydreaming about what 'forever' might mean to Sebastian Von Traum, her daylight-tolerant vampire lover, he suddenly goes missing. As if that isn't enough, Mátyás, Sebastian's half-vampire son who is cursed to be a perpetual teenager, shows up looking for his dad. At the same time, Garnet begins to sponsor the incredibly gorgeous Micah as a new member of her coven. Garnet is determined to keep things professional while she searches for her missing boyfriend but Lilith, her inner goddess, has other ideas...

4.0 out of 5 stars Garnet Lacey Series Book 3 24 Feb 2010
By Sarah (Feeling Fictional) TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
This is the third book in the Garnet Lacey series & continues on a few months after the end of Dead Sexy. I'd recommend reading the series in order - although this review won't give spoilers for Romancing the Dead it will include spoilers for previous books so I wouldn't recommend reading further if you've not read the previous books.

Sebastian and Garnet have just got engaged but with Garnet's track record that doesn't mean everything is going to go smoothly. She is still struggling with jealousy issues, hating the fact that Sebastian has ghouls (people he feeds from) but not wanting to become his main food source. She is also nervous about moving in with him & worried about what the future will hold - with him being an immortal vampire & her being a human who will age.

Sebastian has talked Garnet into starting a new coven - something she has been very wary of doing since her coven was slaughtered by the Vatican witch hunters. This introduces a whole host of interesting characters - including the gorgeous Micha. When Sebastian disappears Garnet isn't sure what to think especially with Matyas back on the scene. They have to team up to try and find out what has happened & form an uncomfortable truce.

I enjoyed this installment of the series & am looking forward to seeing where the story will take Garnet next. I'd say the plot was a bit more predictable than the previous 2 books but I still enjoyed it & there were some things that took me by surprise. I was disappointed we didn't get to see too much of Sebastian in this one but it was interesting to see the relationship between Garnet & Matyas developing and I think the coven are going to add interest to future books in the series. Overall this wasn't my favorite book in the series but was still enjoyable & I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun series 2 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
I'd recommend reading this series in order:
Tall, Dark and Dead; Dead Sexy; Romancing the Dead.
Yes, it's another vampire and magic romantic series but it's more mainstream (more chick lit than romance) and I enjoyed the slightly humorous style and the idiosyncratic characters. The supernatural world that runs alongside our normal world feels very believable and my credulity is not strained. My only wish is for there to be a little more sparkle between Garnet and Sebastian - I find it hard to understand what it is about these two very different characters that attracts them to each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the second book 10 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have read the first 2 books in this series and I was disappointed in the second one. This one is back on form and I really enjoyed it. It starts out with the news that Garnet (witch) and Sebastian (vampire)are engaged (right on the first page). However, the main thrust of the story is that Garnet and Sebastian are trying to start up their own coven, something Garnet has really missed since the slaughter of her original coven by the Vatican assassins. There is also the problem that Garnet dislikes Sebastian's ghouls but is unwilling and unable to let him feed from her- tricky when you're getting married. In the midst of all this, Sebastian suddenly disappears and Matyas comes back on the scene. He reluctantly teams up with Garnet to find Sebastian despite disapproving of her engagement of his father.

The book zips along and although, some parts are predictable, many are not. I enjoyed the hunt for Sebastian and the mysteries of the various members of the new coven. I also enjoyed the change in Garnet's relationship with Matyas and the further trials and tribulations of Garnet's involvement with the goddess Lilith. The aspects of the book that deal with witchcraft and magic lift the book away from any comparisons with other vampire romance books.

I'm glad that the series has found its feet again and I look forward to reading the fourth book.
