Born in Jerusalem 27 years ago, Yasmin Levy was introduced to Ladino (language of sephardic culture) singing and culture from a very young age. Her father was the leading figure in the world of research into and preservation of the Judeo-Spanish culture, dating back to the 15th century in Spain. Today, it remains one of the most moving and romantic musical traditions of all time.
In her deep, spiritual and moving style of singing, Yasmin preserves and revives the most beautiful and romantic songs from the Ladino/ Judeo-Spanish heritage, blending with Andalusian Flamenco.

Format:Audio CD
This is a stunning album by Yasmin Levy. It is sung in "Ladino" a form of 15th century Spanish mixed with Hebrew and other languages. Yasmin's voice is captivating and has a real spiritual intensity that on first hearing took me by suprise. There is not a weak track on the album, my favourite if I had to pick one is track 3 "Yo En La Prizion" (Me In Prison). Well done to Connecting Cultures Records for releasing this, I look forward to more!

It is hard to describe how it feels for a speaker of an almost forgotten language when I hear the old songs sang in the porcelain voice of Yasmin Levi. To some people these songs may sound strange or not very happy. To me this CD's songs are a window into the past and represent the endurance of the Sefaradies throughout history. This is not only because I understand and feel what she says, because even if you don't understand you could still feel the spiritual zenith that Sefaradies reached at a certain point in history. Muestro Snyor Elohenu is a masterpiece in that regard. The other songs talk about mundane things and occurrences. Things that the Ashkenazim would never talk about or sing in such an explicit way. Lovers and passionate love, thieves, the police... etc. As a whole this CD shows what makes Sefaradies whole and unique. It is just beautiful.

what can i say but amazine.how such a fantastic voice can still exist in our day and age.so powerful this music will make you shiver even make you cry even though you don't undersand the languge,anyone with any knowledge of music will be moved by this beautiful talented star.
