Fun concept for a romance! 29 Oct 2011
By Lauren Hidden - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
When Ms. Crooks asked if I'd be willing to review this book, I was intrigued so of course I said yes. It reminded me of those sci fi "choose your own ending" books from my youth where you'd need to decide if you wanted to stay on earth and wave goodbye to the alien or get in a spaceship and blast off with your little green friend. I really wasn't sure how this would work for an adult audience and especially for a romance. I also wondered how easy it would be to maneuver between choices in the Kindle format.

It didn't take me long to finish this book (approximately an hour and a quarter) but maybe that's because I didn't make all the right choices. I did not read every possible storyline even though this was for review because I wanted to read it as an average reader might. I found a few of the characters in some of the stories seemed a bit flat and the stories were often lacking enough romantic suspense for my liking. I was drawn to the strong mystery angle to some of the stories, which actually drew me in more than the romance aspect. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and it was fun to see where my choices took me. (I didn't always make the "right" ones.) I'd like to see Ms. Crooks write more of these. I wonder if she could create a more satisfying read by including fewer stories and making them longer-giving more time to build the intrigue and develop the romantic suspense between the characters. I'd suggest maybe just one or two stories for the whole book with multiple choices that could veer you off the "right" path and then back on again with a few dead ends along the way of course.

I was really wary of how this would work on a Kindle (I have a Kindle 2) but was pleasantly surprised in how easy it was to pick the choice I wanted. I could jump immediately to that section and then go back to make a different choice with just a few buttons.

I give this book 4 stars. It wasn't perfect, but it was refreshingly different and a lot of fun to read. I'm looking forward to her next one.

A refreshing read 18 Oct 2011

Bringing the old "choose your own adventure" style books to the kindle is such a neat idea. And because I'm a bit more grown up now, I love the romance angle these stories have. I also really like that it has some dark humor, too. The non-happily-ever-after endings are possibly more fun than the happily-ever-after ones. I would definitely recommend this handful of fun, whimsical stories for a different kind of reading experience.

Amusing 14 Mar 2012

I downloaded this because it reminded me of the choose your own adventure books from my youth. It has about the same depth, so don't expect to get wrapped up in the characters. 4 stars because it was great entertainment for work lunch, it was a short read.
