By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
The book describes and values several thousand (!) silver coins of the rulers mentioned in the title of which 573 are illustrated. Although the first edition appeared in 1954 this third edition from 1979 is still a valuable reference book. Nowhere else can one find such a variety of coin descriptions at such a low price. For every coin the concordance to other reference works (e.g. R.I.C or B.M.C.)that are much more expensive or difficult to obtain is given. Although the values of the coins are not up to date the valuation of the coins in proportion to each others is still valid. Only occasionally a rare variety of a coin (e.g. some coins of the first emission of Antoninus Pius are very rare although they bear standard reverses) is valued like a standard coin. All in all I can recommend this book to every collector of roman silver coins.

The standard reference book for the field. 22 Aug 1996
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is the standard reference book for collecting ancient
Roman silver coins. Although it was first published many
years ago, it is still THE standard work on the subject. No
collector of Roman silver should be without it. Always buy
the book first, then the coin.
