Book Description

17 April 2008 Roman Mysteries
This volume includes three novels in their entirety: THE ASSASSINS OF ROME: Jonathan has disappeared on a secret quest to Rome. In attempting to locate him, his friends must enter Nero's Golden House, and find an assassin. THE DOLPHINS OF LAURENTUM: A sunken wreck full of treasure seems to be the answer to the four detectives' woes. But someone else seeks the bounty - someone with a sinister connection to Lupus's past. THE TWELVE TASKS OF FLAVIA GEMINA: In order to save her father from a terrible fate, Flavia must perform twelve tasks - just like the Greek hero Hercules.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent children's fiction 15 May 2013
Format:Paperback
My daughter has just rattled through The Thieves of Ostia. We were supposed to read it together at bedtime but she was so enthralled she has devoured it. She's 6 and in Yr2, so I thought she might struggle a little but no, she read ahead of me and I was almost disappointed to not read myself how Flavia had solved the mystery. I've just ordered 6 more in the series. I found the first book well written with accurate details, nicely drawn characters and interesting denouement. I heartily recommend this series to other parents who want to get their children hooked on reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent historical detective fiction 8 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
intelligent, well-written with sympathetic characters, moral issues and fast-paced plot - would stand alone as top notch detective fiction then when you add to this the historical detail in the series I really can't recommend them enough for Junior aged readers (ie yrs 4, 5 and 6 depending on their reading abilities, my son is a very able Year 3 and he loves them - I am a teacher and I love them too!!!)
