Roman Mysteries is a wonderful set of books and now an equally wonderful television series. The four young detectives are brought together in this series with a few minor changes to the original stories, but all in all very sympathetically, so that readers of the books will not be annoyed by the liberties taken. This is perhaps largely because Caroline Lawrence, the author, was very much involved in the television adaption.
And the series is wonderfully put together. Filmed in fabulous locations, with some first class sets and a talented group of actors - young and old - who really bring this series to life. A few of the more gory details are cleaned up for this adaption, but the adventures are fast paced, full of action and funny moments.
My family are hooked on these. My youngest daughter was still 5 when she started watching it, and my oldest is currently 9 and still loves it (and I expect she would continue loving it for many more years if there were to be more than 2 series, but apparently there are no plans to make a third series, sadly). The historical setting also makes this a highly educational series.
This series gets re-shown periodically on CBBC in the UK, so you may be able to check it out on iplayer. The DVD version is better quality, though, and has all the benefits of you actually owning the media.
I have been very happy with this purchase.
