The received product was actually the inferior Am-Tech S2900 Helping Hand, not the advertised Rolson 60335. This appears fairly robust, is easily adjustable, and grips small objects securely. On arrival, it works well but I'm not sure how well the joints will work after continued use.

A note of caution if you plan to use this for hobbyist electronics: the clips leave obvious scratch marks on printed circuit boards. The clips are firm enough to secure objects through a small piece of padding material though. This is a little inconvenient, but not a huge problem.

This is an ingenious product, sufficiently well made for its purpose, with a reasonably good magnifying glass (not the cheap plastic lenses you sometimes find, which distort the image badly).

Trying to use it with it assembled as supplied and as illustrated, I found it difficult to get the clips close enough together to hold a small workpiece centrally in the field of view of the glass. Also, it was difficult to set the workpiece far enough away from the glass to get the benefit of maximum magnification.

One way round this is to take the assembly to pieces and mount the bar vertically on the stand with the glass mounted at the top. The two ring mounts can be arranged about 2/3 of the way down the bar, and the clips then mounted from these. Do this so that most of the assembly hangs over the U shaped side of the base, but with the glass and clips hanging over the other side, for best stability. Sorry I can't add a photo of this!

Hope this helps.

Absolutely brilliant!!!
Holds model safe and secure. I am using it for Airfix modelling.
Magnifying glass aids detailed work.
Can be set to many postions.
Exceptionally good value for money.
I wonder how I managed without it; no modeller should be without one!

Having looked over these 'helping hands' I decide to go for this one based on previous buyers feedback.

The magnifying glass is made of glass and is nice and clear. The base is a decent weight and the arms can be tightened nicely. I think it would be easy to over tighten if you're not careful.

Highly recommended especially at this price.

Not great quality, but then you get what you pay for. Although the poor quality is down to the wing nuts which don't grip that well and if it comes apart, quite awkward to put together again.

This arrived on time and is adequate for the purpose we bought it for. I wouldn't necessarily call it 'heavy duty' though.

The older one gets the less we worry about what people think of us and the more we want to be able to do what we want in a way of working that suits us. This product is an invaluable third hand, and with the addition of a magnifying glass even the smallest detail of ones work can be seen easily. Brilliant for modeling and electronics assembly. My primary use is with 'N' gauge railways and for the small detailed work that requires, this is invaluable. Very stable and well worth the price. If there is a down-side the magnifying glass could be larger by 2cm.
