To be fair, from new it worked brilliantly (quite literally!) then one day after 2-3 months of daily usage and charging it simply died. It has no replaceable parts so there was nothing I could do to fix it. I called Rolson's direct line for advice and Customer Support and was rather abruptly told that they offered no telephone support and to email them or, preferably, to return it to where i purchased it from. I have owned many of these recharchageable million candle torches, and I am well aware they do not last that long (usually 1-2yrs)as they gradually fail to charge, but lasting only a few months is a new record low. Perhaps I was just unlucky, but with no Customer support to speak of it is hard to know, so regretably I cannot recommend this torch.

I was initially pleased with this torch and I used it a few times since purchase in August 2009. A couple of weeks ago I went to use it and it was completely dead, despite being attached to the charger. I would not have expected the battery to die completely, but nevertheless was further disappointed to find that the product, although still being sold new, does not have spares available so I was unable to replace the battery. It's not an expensive item, but I do not feel good about throwing this in the bin and have not had my money's worth.
It's definitely cheaper than a million candles, but may not last much longer than real ones. Best avoided.

Bought this Rolson Model 60781, 1 million candle power lantern about 2 months ago, and I have to say I was disappointed almost from the start. It lasted just long enough for me to throw out the box and reciept, otherwise I'd have taken it straight back where I got it from! The blurb on the box says that you can get "UP TO" (and that's the get out phrase) "30 minutes of continuous use". Well I haven't even managed to get 30 minutes of INTERMITENT use.
It doesn't even rate the single star I have had to give it to post this review!
In short DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Received the Rolson 60781 as a Christmas present. Charged it up as instructed. Tried it out once, & it worked fine.
Hung it up & tried to use it again & it died after 10 seconds. Recharged with the same sad result, it died again!!! Tried to purchase a replacement battery & found there are NO SPARE-PARTS. How can AMAZON offer to sell an item that has so many defective units, on its Web Shopper site.
As it was a Christmas gift I can`t return it for a replacement or money back as I have no receipts etc. I consider this a complete rip-off. AMAZON has just lost another customer .....

I bought one of these 1 million candle torches a few months ago and I have not used it very much - only had to recharge it 4 times. last time I used it it died after a few seconds so I gave it the full recommended charge. Turned it on after charge and it shone very dimly for about 5 seconds and then died. Like another reviewer, I had the torch long enough to have lost the receipt and could not even remember where I purchased it. I tested the charger and it was ok. Checked the battery and it was only reading 3 volts. I contacted Rolson by e'mail saying how disappointed I was with the performance of the battery and, surprise surprise, I did not receive a reply so I wrote to the manager of customer services on 3rd August telling them about the poor performance and asking them to send me a replacement battery. I have not had a reply and probably never will.

This was the best torch I had ever used or even seen.

Well it was for two uses.

Then it just packed up.

Read the other reviews, yours, should you buy one, will pack up too

I have had this torch for some months now and have found that the problem with it being dead is that when the charger is plugged in the torch is disabled. When the charger is removed, the contact to re-enable the torch does not always work. Plugging the charger in and out a few times will often bring the torch back to life. I have another lead acid torch, which stops charging when fully charged so as to not over charge the battery. It's a shame Rolson did not do the same.

I am most disappointed with this torch, particular as I associate the name Rolson with a degree of quality. The torch doesn't retain its charge for very long - far less time than other such rechargeable torches that I have owned. The on / off switch is fiddly and now the bulb has failed yet there doesn't appear to be any availability of spares. The torch is therefore heading for the bin and I won't be buying anything made by Rolson again.
