The author does an excellent job of tracing the history of the Spirit and related models, beginning with it's creation from the Silver Shadow platform. In the 1990s, RR began creating several models from the same basic body and mechanicals, and Robson is most helpful in tracing modications, equipment, and differences between the various cars. His discussion of things like running changes to the turbocharged Bentley series are most enlightening and helpful. He doesn't discuss that much about technical details for repair, nor the weak points of various models. (No, Rolls Royce and Bentley motor cars are not perfect, and have definite issues, such as short-lived power steering racks, need for periodic replacement of suspension/brake accumlators, and various electrical gremlins.) He's also honest enough to admit that the Germans in recent years are fiercely competitive in the luxury car arena. Given the relatively low price compared to many volumes on RR and Bentley, this book is an excellent investment. I've owned various Jaguar and Mercedes Benz models over the years, and don't know that RR is necessarily the ultimate motoring experience. But they're unique in many ways, and Robson does a great job of presenting information on why the cars are truly special.
