In this virtual catalog of Rolex wristwatches, collectors and buyers will find 3,621 wristwatches in over 14 different model lines: Oyster, Bubbleback, including Chronograph, Submariner, Explorer, and more. Each watch is shown in full color, with the most important technical details as well as reference numbers, and year of manufacture provided. This variety of information is of inestimable worth for the wristwatch collector and buyer. In one place, for example, they can see the typical Oyster from the 1940s and nearly all the case and dial variations that were available. The same applies to all the lines made by Rolex. 3.0 out of 5 stars So so book, some errors 4 July 2010
Format:Hardcover
I bought this after a quick flick through. I should have read it properly! There are lots of errors in the text (I don't know if this is down to translation, as the author is Japanese?) such as "[The Sea-Dweller] is filled with helium gas" ??? I'm by no means a Rolex expert, but I was able to spot a lot of similar errors very quickly. A lot of the watches have comments about their condition, which is quite irrelevant in a book aiming to show small variations of models.

On the plus side there are literally thousands of thumbnail photos of watch faces (unfortunately no real detail shots-the best is on the cover), it is a large format, well made book.

Could do better, as teacher always used to say. Shame.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many mistakes 1 Nov 2010
Format:Hardcover
As always, it depends what you are looking for from a watch book - this is literally 3,261 small thumbnail photographs (I assume the title is correct - I haven't counted them!!!) of a number (but by no means all) Rolex models from the first pre oysters to more or less the present day. There is virtually no explanatory text or information and as noted in the other reviews far, far too many mistakes, typos and inconsistency in description. Too many photos do not give the date and are not always in chronological order so tracking changes over the years is difficult. Also, many give irrelevant information (eg. ''movement replaced'' etc). Having said that, I personally like the book - but try and have a look before buying as it has a very specific audience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good picture reference book 14 Oct 2010
Format:Hardcover
This book is surely the most comprehensive collection of Rolex watch photos ever. It has thousands of pictures on Rolex models both pre oyster and up to date modern models. Do not buy it for a textual reference or history of Rolex as it has very little. There is however text with each picture explaining the model. A must have for the Rolex enthusisast. Good coffee table book. What is really needed is a cheaper, more affordable Rolex reference book with correct facts and interesting points as well as a section from someone who really knows their fakes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, but flawed 15 Jan 2010
By Adam M. Dubin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Yes, there are 3,261 photos of Rolex watches, of all types, through the decades, and they are of consistently good quality (albeit small). But this book is rather poorly organized, edited, and proofread, so it will prove to be perhaps more frustrating than rewarding. Buy for the pictures and overview of Rolex history (and to see those beautiful, rare dials), and not for the detailed information about the models (which is often incorrect).

1.0 out of 5 stars Lots of photos but very little text and many errors 20 Aug 2010
By Ozlanka - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Well here is yet another Rolex book. This one is unfortunately error prone despite the minimal text.

Model numbers are transposed in some places and can mislead a person new to Rolex watches.

The author makes sweeping statements that are incorrect. E.G. In the first section under GMT II he states that this model was discontinued in 2000. Sorry that I have to disagree as I have a late Z series of this same model (2007)- in fact the Z is the last of the series and sometimes called the STICKS dial.

The arrangement of the chapters leaves much to be desired. The same topic comes up again in another part of the book and reason is unclear, perhaps this adds more content?

The saving grace of this book is that it has an immense collection of photos of Rolex watches. Many of which are not in any other book. But here too the author has missed a great opportunity to add value to his book, in many cases, under the photos he has failed to give a model number and year of manufacture for the watch.

Rather unfortunate as this is the type of information serious collectors are seeking when buying a book on watches.

Well this is a book I purchased to add to my existing library of Rolex books, for the price - well what the heck.
