This is Rogue from the start, all the early battles alluded too in the later comics. The massacre, the death of Bagman, Gunner and Helm, the first confrontation with the traitor general!
When I was reading the weekly comics in the 90's I thought I would never get a chance to read these classic stories, the best you could hope for was a few chunks re-printed in the x-mass megazines but here it is. If you like 2000AD or Rogue buy it now before it goes out of print again!
If you are new to the world of 1980's British comic book sci-fi; well you might find it a bit cheesy or juvenile by today's standards. What you have to remember is this was all groundbreaking stuff and very original for the time. I mean, genetically engineered soldiers, digitised dead people stored in chips; it might be a bit of a cliché these days but it was thrilling back then! So, good for the comic connoisseur, interesting to the curious but not so great if you are the critical, cutting edge type.
It's all black and white in pen and ink by the way (we didn't know Rogue was blue until he made the front cover).

Following on with Rogues adventures we find him on the War Base Milli Com with his chance to not only clear his name but also to get his 3 companions (helm, gunnar & bagman) re-gend. All, however, is not well as we see a new enemy arising from far across the galaxy which will interfere with Rogues plans.

I must admit to not having seen these prog's when they originaly came out in 2000ad way back then, but I have seen a few frames here and there in 'best of' collections. Along with the previous collections (future of war, fort neuro, eye of the traitor & to the ends of nu earth) this do's follow on nicely with some fantastic artwork & good story lines. One thing I would say is that obviously when these were first published it was due to either public demand, as in, what happend to Rogue??or Gerry Finley-Day as wishing to continue Rogue's adventures for a while longer. I say this because the story do's flag somewhat in the middle, it drags it's feet slowly with a story which just do's not seem credible (although with sc fi ANYTHING is credible) but picks up the speed again with a fantastic conclusion. The only thing we are left wondering at the end is (can you guess) will Rogue survive the latest challenge??? You will have to read it yourself to find out.....Roll on Book 6!!!!

Well, after nearly 20 years I have finaly caught up with the missing sections of Rogues adventures. Missing because I never found out what happened to Rogue in the end as we moved away to warmer & more exotic climates. Starting off with this note: Rogue was my 2nd favorite character from the 2000ad comics with the first being Nemesis the Warlock, of which I see they are releasing a 'complete' collection off stories very soon. Sadly , the likes of Judge Dredd only made my list after even the ABC Warriors & Slain...never got on with Dredd always the same...well apart from Judge Death & he was NASTY!!!

Anyway Rogue, in this collection, finally catches up with his arch enemy the General who sold out his entire platoon of GI's & let them be exterminated. After 3 long weary battle torn years the story comes to an end??? I love Rogue, I love the artwork - story & the pace of the original series BUT I must admit to thinking they left the pace on simmer when the'final' confrontation took place....left me thinking 'is that it'. But it's not, nope, far from finished. Rogue continues in Regene & according to 2000ad themselves a 6th collection of Rogues travels will be released very very soon.

Get the series, book 1 is a top notch intro, book 2 has the epic story Fort Neuro, book 3 is up there as well.

Long live Rogue, Gunnar, Helm & Bagman
