Product Description

Product Description

His reputation is legendary. His life an adventure. His pursuers merciless. Florian Homm. A 6-foot-5 colossus. A wrecking ball. An unscrupulous hedge fund manager. The ugly face of the new turbo-charged capitalism. A mover and shaker, at 26, of millions for South American governments and the fabulously wealthy. A cold-hearted mercenary, he disemboweled companies auctioning off the best pieces to the highest bidder. A man who had scores of homes, two jets and hundreds of millions of dollars, but who still didn’t have one thing: enough–instead he was driven to consume beyond excess.

As if in a daze, Florian Homm forged through his life with brutal efficiency. It began in Oberursel, a small town in Germany, and led him through Harvard into the heart of the financial markets. Both brilliant and charismatic, his career took off like a comet in the world’s toughest business. In the course of his working life, he profited from the bankruptcy of the Vulkan shipping company in Bremen, rehabilitated the German soccer club Borussia Dortmund, and was gunned down in Venezuela. But even then, after a close shave with death, Florian Homm knew only one way forward: the race to the top. Until his recklessness caught up with him in a hard beat.

It’s the story of a brilliant financial juggler, a runaway, a fugitive, the notorious enfant terrible of the European financial world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read 1 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a cracking read. I was expecting lies and exaggerations but having met the author and having known several of his business acquaintances in the past much of it seems pretty accurate. I have heard he's under threat of extradition to the US at the moment so maybe the final chapter to this hasn't yet been written.

I choose this book because it is true and an amazing story what a life this man has been through I hope they make it to a movie, I also believe that he has been arrested in Italy and is being extradited to America, what a story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compulsive Reading 5 Mar 2013

Great read. A larger than life character brought down by pure greed, realising he has lost all that is truly valuable and seeking redemption. The makings of a film perhaps?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, captivating 9 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I actually hadn't heard of Homm before I read his book and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I am sure as he points out there is a huge divergence between what is written in the press and his book of which I will eagerly read up on. Presume there is a huge grey area and the truth is probably in there. Either way, he's a character.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hard-as-nails capitalist and a cross between Mike Tyson and Einstein 29 Nov 2012
By rectivier - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
"Rogue Financier" is a page turner, sheer madness, and a clear candidate for the movies. Florian Homm was nothing less than a German Gordon Gekko, a hard-as-nails capitalist who conquered the Olympus of the capitalistic system and then fell back to earth in true the-harder-they-come-the-deeper-they-fall style. Howard Marks brings the character and the book to the point: "... a cross between Mike Tyson and Einstein, Jekyll and Hyde. [...] the Klaus Kinski of hedge fund management, an amoral functional psychopath. And he has a unique story to tell, a story so unbelievable that it will send a shiver down the reader's spine more than just once." It's a brilliant book, a must-read!
