Book Description

While still a child in Redding, California, Shyla Ericson killed her father to end years of abuse. She’d left town shortly thereafter, changed her name, and started a new life, eventually becoming a highly decorated DEA agent.

But some history doesn’t stay buried.
When Shyla goes undercover to bring down drug kingpin Victor Champlain, the case takes her back to a town that hasn't forgotten her, and to a past she thought she’d left behind.

Then, she meets Brennan Miles, a genetically altered kidnap victim, who has been turned into a weaponized super-human. Victor helped Brennan escape from a hidden genetics research facility known only as The Institute, where he'd been held and experimented on for years. In return for his freedom, Brennan now works for Victor as his bodyguard.

Shyla is drawn to Brennan's strength, and to his humanity. Even after she discovers his secret — he must have human blood to survive. Shyla knows she can’t take down Champlain by going through Brennan — he’s too strong — and he’s loyal to Victor.

About the Author

Michelle Bellon lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and their four children. She loves to travel with her family. She is desperately confused as to why she lives where it rains all the time because she lives for sunny days and blue skies. She drinks coffee until she's manic and loves to dance. She was raised by her loving mother and cherished grandmother in areas along the west coast. An avid reader at a young age, she read everything she could get her hands on and took ballet for many years. She married Pablo Bellon in her early twenties and relished her time as a stay-at-home mom for many years before she decided to go to college. She graduated with her nursing degree in 2005. Then when she and her husband decided to have their fourth child she took leave of her medical career to be with the baby. It was during this time that her writing career was born. It started when she began to have dreams about stories and characters. She knew they would be great books but doubted whether she had what it took to take on the monumental task of writing a novel. Though she loved to read, she'd never considered it possible that she would one day write a book of her own. It seemed too fantastic. However, those dreams kept haunting her and one day she decided that maybe instead of doubting whether she could or not, she would simply try and see what happened. What could it hurt? Six months later, she sat back and stared in complete disbelief at the final page of a young adult novel and said, "I think I just wrote a book." What next? So she set to doing the research on what it took to publish a novel. That's when she discovered that writing the book was the easy part. Publishing and marketing that book was another beast altogether. She also discovered that her book was somewhat of a mess. It needed a lot of work! So she immersed herself in the business. She found a writers critique group. She read everything she could on the craft of writing. She went to conferences and listened to the wisdom of authors and editors. She researched on the internet until her eyes felt like they were bleeding. But most of all, she wrote. And wrote. And wrote. Until she began to feel like she might, just might, have a chance at making a name for herself in this tough industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mixture 5 April 2013
By maffism
Format:Paperback
Tastefully sexy, crime related vampiric chick lit. Quite the combo,, and it works. Whilst quite girlie, I don't see why the majority of men wouldn't enjoy it as well. Yep, it's complex, and one definitely needs to pay close attention but it's by no means opaque or overly difficult; go for it, it's a book you definitely won't regret starting.

Rogue Alliance . Michelle Bellon
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
So, I liked the sound of this, but for some odd reason I had it in my head it was paranormal. So of course on reading I was expecting vampires or something, but the closest we get is Brennan, who's escaped from a "clinic" where he's been held for years, genetically modified and undergone some horrific treatments. That's my fault though for not reading the description properly! My bad... Nevertheless it was still an interesting and fascinating read.
I kept thinking of all the awful things poor Brennan had endured in the clinic, and what about others still in the complex? Even though his rescuer is a vicious crime-lord Brennan feels a debt of honour to him, and works to protect him. His enhanced strength and abilities are why Victor rescued him, feeling that he'd make the ideal bodyguard. For a while that works well but then Shyla gets involved. She's got her own demons from the past, and her own way of coping with them - Patron often!
When things hot up with Victor and the crime scene, Shyla gets the chance to go undercover. She jumps at it, even though it means returning to her home-town where she had the atrocious childhood and consequences that still give her horrific nightmares. She's convinced that Victor is connected to many local crimes and people, and wants the chance to prove it and help bring him down. Its a dangerous journey for her though, she has to try to get Victor interested in her and ask her out. She needs to get close to him to make everything work. While doing this and getting into danger she learns much about herself along the way, and about her method of coping. She meets Brennan while dating Victor, and sees some of his above normal abilities when they meet unexpectedly one evening.

5.0 out of 5 stars this always tells me its going to be a good one. The book starts out with the character ... 13 Nov. 2014
By Becky Ryan-Willis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
From the very first page Bellon got my attention, this always tells me its going to be a good one. The book starts out with the character of Brennan, a man with amnesia, who is locked up in a secret government institute. When a man he doesn’t know shows up and offers him his freedom in exchange for loyalty, Brennan doesn’t see any other choice. Free from his cell and the awful experiments that he was subjected to, Brennan decides that he owes his new friend all he can give, even if he is a man dealing in illegal activity.

Shyla is a detective in the Federal Agency of Narcotic Control who’s career is quickly moving upwards. When she is offered a promotion to go undercover to bring down one of the United States most dangerous drug lords, Shyla jumps at the opportunity. When she finds out she has to move back to her hometown, she has had nightmares about, Shyla begins to have doubts. Due to getting away from her horrific childhood life after graduation, Shyla never wanted to step foot in Redding again. Unfortunately, in order to take down Victor, Shyla packs her bags and goes back to the area of her nightmares with a bottle of tequila in tow.

Rogue Alliance has all of the great components to capture anyone’s attention. With its extremely fast moving plot, witty dialogue, and unexpected yet much appreciated romance. Shyla is extremely snarky and because of her circumstances from her past, she is uncomfortable with any attention from men that comes her way. She definitely has to change her ways in order worm her way into Victor’s good graces and bed. What she doesn’t expect is a connection to Brennan, Victor’s stoic and very secretive bodyguard. When they both try to ignore the spark that is between them, they come to realize that is just might be impossible. Shyla also struggles to remain undercover and to keep her head out out of the past in a town that knows her history.

As a reader you will see the beginnings of a budding romance that at first seems to be an awful idea because of sins from the past along with lost memories. Then upon a closer look you will see something that might change your mind.

Can these characters stay alive long enough to tell their stories? That is a hard call to make, because with the turn of the page you’re wondering how these twists and turns will work out. Make sure you take time to enjoy this page turning, fast paced story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hook, Line, & Sinker!! Fabulous, Just Fabulous! 9 April 2014
By Christine Gabriel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First off, bravo to Author Michelle Bellon - You've earned a true fan!

Rogue Alliance has it all - mystery, suspense, romance, and more. I literally read this book in one sitting...it was that fabulous! The characters were well thought out and the book kept me completely intrigued.

Shyla is one stubborn, feisty cop who is determined to take down drug lord Victor, and ultimately ends up meeting Brennan, a genetically altered human who is most certainly swoon-worthy.

I ordered the paperback and wow, I was impressed with that also! It's easy to read and the cover is truly amazing. Thank you Michelle Bellon for giving me the opportunity to get hooked on your series. I will eagerly be awaiting the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Adult Crime Thriller! 12 Jan. 2013
By Seirra Poirier - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
A review copy was provided for an honest review. I kept waiting for the moment when Rogue Alliance would cease to hold my interest but that moment never came. It held my attention throughout the whole novel and I enjoyed every page, it was wonderfully told and well written--Michelle Bellon does a truly spectacular job engaging readers. Also the cover design of the book is beautiful which is just another reason to grab it. As soon as I read the summary I instantly wanted to read more; Shyla is a great heroine she's determined, courageous, down-to-earth, and has a clever cop mind. She sticks up for herself and does what's necessary. Brennan is reserved, cautious, dangerous, and something else entirely.

Shyla Ericson is a female police officer whose been working a huge drug case for many years. She finally gets her big break when she's given the opportunity to go undercover and obtain the intel she needs to put an illusive drug dealer behind bars. The only problem is her chief wants her to move back to her home town--a place she hasn't been in nearly 19 years because of her dark past which haunts her. Shyla knows the dangers of undertaking such a risky operation but she is so close to justice she refuses to let this chance pass her by. Brennan Miles doesn't know who he is or where he came from--only that he needs to escape the confines of the cage he's been in for as long as he can remember. Dr. Shinto made him into a well-disguised monster by altering his genetics and testing him beyond his limits--he's a prisoner without a way out..until a man offers to give him freedom for the price of his loyalty and protection. The game is on as these 3 paths intersect in this excitingly thrilling novel.

Rogue Alliance is told from two different POV's. Shyla is a cop who specializes in narcotics and Brennan is a mysterious man with an unknown past. Shyla is confident, brazen, strong-willed, and stubborn. She possesses many relateable and admirable qualities that I absolutely loved. She's ballsy--she sticks up for what she believes in and at the same time she has this vulnerability beneath the surface. But she also has her flaws; Shyla drinks way too much for her own good and has a tendency to be obstinate. Brennan is puzzling, loyal and oblivious to his inexplicable allure. Together they form an interesting bond that ties them to one another even though they're on opposing sides of a situation. I instantly fell in love with both there characters who have soo much depth and darkness shrouding them but they make the best of whatever obstacles they face. Rogue Alliance has the perfect amount of action, romance and suspense to keep all reading parties interested.

I was incredibly impressed by the story development and character profundity that's fantastically integrated. I had a real obscure knowledge of what to expect and quickly I became drawn in tearing through the pages to see how everything ended. What a great ending, expect many twists with an edge of unpredictability, a fierce heroine, a complicated hero, with realistic situations and a hint of the extraordinary. Rogue Alliance will be devoured for its sheer amusement and wit alone. Shyla is a force of nature not to be messed with. I absolutely loved everything about it and I'll be looking forward to reading the next book in this new series. Michelle Bellon's writing is excellent and should not be overlooked!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great suspenseful book! 28 Oct. 2014
By Kristin Plausky - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Throw one emotionally messed up cop woman together with a genetically enhanced man who feeds on blood, along with a drug cartel leader, and what do you get? This book. I never thought I would see a non-fantasy book that had an actual "feeding on blood" human. You can't really call him a vampire, but surviving on blood is just too abnormal to not call him something. Either way Brennan is one messed up dude looking for some sort of twisted version of redemption through loyalty.
Shyla is trying to stay as far away from her painful past as possible. A shame her bosses haven't figured that one out before they toss her into her old stomping grounds in an undercover scheme to bring down a major drug lord.
Overall, this was a great suspenseful book that made me connect emotionally with the characters of Shyla and Brennan. The author does an amazing job of keeping the story line going with just enough action to keep you reading. The romance was a little on the iffy side for me. While I could see the obvious route it was going for Shyla and Brennan, I really wanted her to end up with her partner. They would have made a much healthier, more long-term couple.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Alliance that is Rogue, But Oh So Right! 1 May 2014
By Uvi Poznansky - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the second book I've read from Michelle Bellon's pen, and I am amazed not only at the swiftness of her writing but its intensity as well. Her skill and story-telling talent are strong in every genre she puts her mind into, they ring clear with every turn of phrase.

The characters are rich with flaws and imperfections. They are possessed by vivid pasts that affects their actions even in the here and now. Take Shyla for example: at first glance, as she is waking up in her garage from alcohol-induced coma with a desiccated mouth, she is far from being an inviting character. Her tough exterior may eastbound you, until you get a glimpse of how it must have formed, to protect her invulnerability.

You may immediately understand Brennan, the poor mutant deprived of food and supplements in a 'scientific' experiment to induce a blood-craving appetite in him. His wish to recreate himself in a way that overcomes his weaknesses is evident from the start: "The one consistent concept he was able to grasp was his name. Brennan Miles. It was the name he had given himself. Simple, strong, normal; all qualities that he longed for."

When Shyla reaches out to him across the divide, he is honest enough to say, "'I'm a genetically altered mutant. I have freakish cravings that sometimes end with murder... You should be arresting me, not hinting at making an alliance with me'"

Vulnerability is something they share, something that helps both of them to form a bridge across their apparent differences, and allows them the choice to shape a future that is a departure from what the past has inflicted upon them, by forming an alliance that is rogue, but oh so right!
