I've been buying the Alan Rogers books for well over 15 years and they have always been pretty good, but this edition *really* disappointed. In the past they have had a decent mix of places that were good for camping and for caravanning, but the emphasis has switched so it appears to be mainly caravan-orientated. After about 15 minutes of looking for a decent camp site that was mainly for tents, we gave up and went back to searching on the Internet.

I certainly don't mind the company changing its emphasis - commercial imperatives and all that. I *do* think that calling it "best campsites" is misleading. In summary. probably a decent guide for someone looking for a powered pitch. But if you're looking to pitch your tent somewhere leafy, avoid.

We have used Alan Rogers books now for over 30 years, he is frank & honest about all the site suggested by him. What you see is what you get. In many years of caravaning we have never been let down at any of the sites in his books

This is the fourth edition of this guide that I have bought over the last 20 year. Up to now they have always been excellent, but they are now going downhill. The personal feel about the guides seems to have been lost.

The maps are now poor. They show the city or town where the site is near, but not where the site is, and the directions from the reference town are often poor or non-existent.

For an example look at York and the many sites around - where are they? We need a map which shows where each site actually is.

The sites as presented no longer list the types of units taken, and the general descriptions have been shortened.

I doubt whether Alan Rogers still personally produces these guides - the personal touch has gone.

I had already purchased a similar title by same author covering French camping and caravan sites, so I was pretty sure of what I was going to receive. This is a very detailed and comprehensive book giving all the main details needed towards making a decision of where you wish to stay for your camping/caravanning holiday. It works two ways, 1st of all you can sift through many sites in the region you are anticipating to aim for and get all the primary infomation that the sites offer. Secondly you can follow up with more detailed research by visiting the sites dedicated website if it has one and also take advantage of any offers they are offering direct.

I think that predominantly the Alan Rogers books are a perfect primary search engine.. We have used a number of the sites shown in the French book and already used the Britain and Ireland book. We too update year on year as there are lots of variations to sites offered. A friend lent us the 2002 volume to start with... We chose a site from there and followed up the the website visit and there were certainly lots of changes to be seen. So we bought the 2009 following year and had a great holiday in the south west of France.. Going back again in 2010 and of have the 2010 books with us at all times.

Worth keeping with you whilst you are travelling. You never know when you are going to need it

Not so useful as I had hoped .... The Irish campsites were few and far between. Though the information was clear in the listings

This is an excellent book, with good reviews of some excellent campsites. Have already tried out two of them - very good sites - just as described. Looking forward to next visit. Would recommend the book.

The product is good, unfortunately pages 305 to 336 are missing. Hopefully these are not too important as I have decided not to pay the price of returning it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Guide
It is a well laid out good guide. However we have not really chosen a caravan site from it as usually use UK Campsite online and get lots of peoples opinions.
