Book Description

1 Sep 2002
Most famous as suave sleuth Simon Templar in the 1960s, Roger Moore hung up his halo and in 1973 stepped into the shoes of James Bond 007 for a blockbusting seven adventures - making his one of the most recognizable faces in the world. Roger Moore has enjoyed an amazingly successful and varied career in both television series and feature films ranging from Ivanhoe, Maverick, The Saint and The Persuaders to The Man Who Haunted Himself, Gold, The Wild Geese, The Cannonball Run and Boat Trip. His wicked sense of humour and raised eyebrow has endeared him to both peers and fans alike. Authors Gareth Owen and Oliver Bayan now offer the full story of his films and career, punctuated with memories and anecdotes from the man himself. With over 100 photographs, many never before published, and some from Moore's own collection, Roger Moore: His Films and Career offers an insight into the world of the intensely private actor and tireless charity worker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much more on Moore 7 Aug 2002
Format:Hardcover
Having worked with Roger Moore in two Bond films I was pleased to see that this book not only chronicles Roger's huge career which is much bigger than I realized but also gives the reader his history as a son, a boyfriend, a husband, a father and equally important as a wondeful human being.

Knowing Roger Moore as I do I found the large collection of photographs interesting and heartwarming as it shows Roger as the guy who really cares. I personally loved the photo with him and all the children taken during his UNICEF duties.

Gareth Owen and his writing Partner Oliver Bayan have done a remarkable job in both writing the stories and narrative and selecting the right combination of photos in order for the reader to get to know the real Roger Moore that I know and like as both an actor and as friend to all mankind.

I highly recommend this book for those who want to know more about Roger Moore and as a gift to be given to those who might enjoy seeing him as a role model, not just in 007, but in real life as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, Funny. An absolutely good read. 31 Aug 2002
Format:Hardcover
I personally grew up in the age or Roger Moore. You simply couldn't switch a channel on tv or pick up a 'Whos who today' magazine without seeing the chap. Be it Bond, be it Simon Templar, those suarve looks got me hooked. I searched high and low for a good chunky book which I could find out about this bloke and how he made it in television. First off, if your not a Bond fan, don't despair. Chances are you have come to reach this book because you are interested in the Actor, not just Bond. Good choice. The book goes into detail about the man before he wore the halo. The book is engulfed with private photos of his career which are from his own personal collection. It goes into detail about his entire career and is finished off by an absolutely fantastic filmography covering all his films complete with storyline and Actors/Directors etc. This is one of the first books I managed to finish to the end and words cannot explain what a ride I had. The authors have grasped the meaning of 'Complete and precise'. Bottom line, Excellent! Best money I have spent on a book yet!

5.0 out of 5 stars More than just an eyebrow 2 Sep 2002
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
After reading Mr Owen's two previous books, the excellent Pinewood Story and The Gimmick Man I was overjoyed to find out he had released a book on my favourite actor, Roger Moore.

The book is filled with funny stories many of which I'd not heard of before and also gave me an insight into Roger's tireless work for Unicef. A wonderful read and highly recommended.
