For most of my life (nearly 50 years now) I have been a lover of classical music & especially when played on the guitar. Brought up with names such as Segovia, Bream & Williams, I am no stranger to good guitar music, played well. However the guitar has been in the past, rather a poor relation to when it comes to music that suits it perfectly. Yes, you can hear pieces of music from any number of composers which sound wonderful when set to guitar but for me & for the Spanish guitar, there is no other composer that captures the beauty & range this instrument better than Joaquin Rodrigo.
Have you ever wondered, when you listen to a piece of classical music from a composer that is no longer with us, did they really mean it to sound like that or is this just another interpretation? Within this CD you will probably find one of the most definitive performances of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez you will ever hear. For Pepe Romero took the trouble to seek guidance on how this piece of music should be played from the man himself, Rodrigo. I have always loved this piece, so I was delighted when I saw a UK TV Channel 4 documentary that showed Pepe, Sir Neville and of course Joaquin's preparations to perform & record it.
What about the rest of the album? The orchestra marvellous! and for me the Harp music was an unexpected bonus, if you have perhaps ignored the harp up to now, this is your chance to discover of rediscover it.
The other guitar pieces? How long have you got? Well lets just say, if you are amateur player of the guitar, (as I am), sit back, close your eyes, listen & wonder!!!. How do the Romero's play the guitar as good as this and why! oh why! can't I???
You won't easily find this album in your high street (but this was no problem for Amazon), so take my advice buy it now, you will not be disappointed.
