Very good piece of kit to have if your shooting on the 5d II, it is light and has a long battery life. the only worry is the jack cable, it will eventually break as it has a very thin and week feel, but you get a 10 year warranty. so the only real issue is that it doesn't come with a box to store it away when on the move as you will be if your a 5d shooter. a very important tip is that on the internal settings you must have the level turned all the way down one click away from the bottom to get a really crisp recording. if not there is a hiss.

Amazing sound for the size. The 20dB gain is a must for DSLR users and is a useful option with small camcorders and digital recorders. Build quality seems fine - time will tell. Rode warranty is excellent even if you have a problem in years to come.
If upgrading from the standard Videomic, don't expect an NT2-to-NT3 difference in audio quality, I shall be keeping my other Rode shotguns for using wth XLR cameras.

This mic is a dream. I'm not in to sound but i hated all the options availeble. I bought the zoom first. Soon I was tired syncing my zoom h4n all the time with my canon 5d.
The best quality I get with this Rode, is to put it on +20, turn sound in manual and almost turn it down to about 15 %. The zoom is maybe a bit, just slightly better but not this easy and nobody else hears the differts so maybe it's just me. Sorry for the bad English (being Dutch is a hard thing ;-)

Great little mic

Could be better
Picks up sound very well in front of the mic but picks up too much surrounding noise. Although I have just purchased a windjammer and hoping this will solve the issue

Great piece of kit
Good microphone. Better than the on-board stereo microphone that comes with my Panasonic SD90. Records a twin mono soundtrack. Good rich sound. Highly recommended. Read more
