This book was recommended to me by a gardening friend when I expressed an interesting in growing my own veg. It really is the gardeners Bible. I would be completely lost without it. The book has easy to follow - but not dumbed down - advice on every crop you could wish to grow plus sections on soil, rotation, composting and so on. There is also an excellent quick reference guide on how to sow, maintain and harvest every crop.
If you want to grow your own this book is essential; I haven't seen anything better and after 3 years, I am still returning to it again and again.

There's lots to recommend about this book - but it is the US version of the book I really wanted to buy, which is the Garden Organic Encyclopedia (shouldn't that be Encyclopaedia?) of Organic Gardening, also edited by Pauline Pears, published by DK and with a pretty-much identical cover. So UK shoppers beware.

What a great book. So clear and easy to navigate, this would be the ideal book for any beginner. It doesn't pull any punches, just tells it as it is and is very comprehensive. Highly recommended for both the new gardener an those like me with many years gardening experience.
