Book Description

13 July 2004
A new, very frank and revealing biography of rock's most enduring legend. Rod Stewart will be 60 in less than two years' time - yet his popularity (and his determination to continue living the rock-star life to the full) is undimmed by the passing years. Since turning 50, life has been as turbulent as ever for him; marriage to Rachel, two children, divorce, a serious cancer scare, more albums released and concerts given, singing for the Queen at the Jubilee concert - and, naturally, a new blonde on his arm, Penny Lancaster. Tim Ewbank and Stafford Hildred have been tracking Rod's life for many years, right from the early days of the Faces. For this book they have spoken to many of the most important influences in his life, including past loves like Bebe Ruell, Britt Ekland and Rachel Hunter. This new book is the most complete and intimate account of the life and career of the ultimate rock-star.

This biography is up to date (2003) and does a good job of covering Stewart's early years as well as the last 5 or so years that have escaped previous biographies. It is certainly very kind to Stewart, when compared to some of the earlier biographies that have been written about him that make him sound like a very cruel SOB.

Much of the information contained in this book will not be new to Stewart fans who have followed his career since The Faces. For new devotees, perhaps won over by his recent Great American Songbook albums, this is the perfect biography to read.

Remember, this is Rod Stewart we're talking about here, so sex is liberally discussed throughout the book, making it perhaps not the best choice for younger readers. In defense of this, it is brought out that the 1960's were an era before AIDS, and therefore Stewart's sexual adventures during that time should not be taken in the same light as if this behavior were occuring today.

My favorite quote from the book is credited to Stewart himself, "...girls like to be kissed." I hope it hasn't taken him 58 years to figure that one out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rod is the BEST 23 Dec 2007
Format:Paperback
A brilliant book about the best rock star of all-time. Rod is the maiman and this book captures his personality 100%.
Great singer - great haircut and great taste in women - I love his mantra:
"If she aint blonde she dont see my wand"
And that is typical `Jack the lad` ROD STEWART...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucky Geezer! 9 July 2004
Format:Hardcover
SUPERB! Bought the book for my summer holiday, couldn't put it down. The authors were very complimentary throughout(I would have liked a bit more dirt dished up). It goes into plenty of detail with info I didn't know. He comes across as the "Ideal" non PC Bloke - a breed on the verge of extinsion, mores the pity! The Birds he has "Laid" wow if only! I had to read it at breakfast, dinner and in bed - something Rod wouldn't have the time to do! Good it was. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Me and ROD 27 Dec 2007
Format:Paperback
I have been a huge fan of Rod ever since my ex-wife bought me a copy of his `Best of video` one Saturday at Southend.
I love his voice, his love of football and his image.
I always had a Rod Stewart haircut - and my ex was a `dead ringer` for Britt Ekland.
Rod has been my Number One for 17 years and this book is BRILLIANT , it paints a fantastic picture of a great man

5.0 out of 5 stars ROD THE MOD GOD 6 May 2007
Format:Paperback
I have been a huge fan since 1990 - when my then girlfriend - who became my wife - bought me the greatest hits video.

Rod will always remind me of Juliie and that day in Southend - both are two of the great LOVES of my life.

This book has it all - sex, drugs and rock`n`roll and confirms that Rod really is a living legend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rod the Mod God 16 May 2007
Format:Paperback
I love this book , just as I love all his songs , from The Faces to 2007 Rod Stewart never lets you down.

I have copied his spikey blonde haircut , his swagger . Julie, my ex-wife was a `double` of Britt Ekland , because the TRUTH is I wanted to be Rod Stewart , and reading this books explains why , he has had a fantastic life, booze , birds , football - but at the end of the day it is the music that makes ROD the `top bloke`...
