I really enjoyed this album. The stage show is so much faster and more energetic than the film. OK, so the album may seem a bit rough compared to later versions of Rocky Horror, but this is the first cast recording and the enthusisasm and energy of the cast make this a lot of fun. Out of all the Rocky Horror albums, this remains my favourite because of its originality.

One thing you have to remember about Rocky Horror is that it was a stageshow before being a film. The stageshow was small. So small, in fact, that its largest initial audience was around 50 people. This is the origianl cast recording, completed in under 24 hours, and marketed like tomorrow doesn't exist. The band is small and tinny, the vocals are a little dodgy to say the least at times, but it does feature 2 songs not available on the film sound track. Buy it - if only to see how the Rocky Horror spiralled into the success story it is nowadays.

The singing is a bit cheesy, but not only is this the first ever live performance of The Rocky Horror Show but it is all sung by those in the movie... Tim Curry, Patricia Quinn, Little Nell and Richard O'Brien. However, there is no Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Peter Hinwood (Rocky) or, obviously, Meatloaf.

This is the first ever Rocky Horror soundtrack and the raw energy of the vocal performance is what makes it an essential buy for any Rocky Horror fan. Many of the film cast appear on this record, including Tim Curry and Richard O'Brien, and this soundtrack was recorded very early on in the original run of the show. The songs had only been sung a few times on stage and the music has a very "live" feel to it. Many people consider the film to be the best version of the music, but to hear this record is like hearing the music in the way it had been intended to be heard. A true Rocky Horror classic.

I got this CD mainly for Drama research and i am a big rocky horror fan anyway. I found it very interesting to compare the original cast recording with the movie recording or live show recording, as they are so different. This cd is very raw and isn't all about a perfect performance, it really makes me feel like I am in the 60 seater theatre that it was originally shown in. Its also quite amusing to listen to some of the songs, because of the quality of the singing. If your a big Rocky Horror fan its definatly worth a listen and it will become a treasured little CD in my large Rocky Horror collection.

The theatre in which rocky was first performed was the upstairs theatre and 63 people attended on the opening night this is the orignal cd and may not be the picture show version in fact it is better as you get the flavour of the actual show like you do all live or theatre casts as every rocky performance sounds so different and is different. This Cd is richard O briens image, concept and idea for the show, THIS IS THE SHOW a musta have for all music lovers and rocky fans

It doesn't matter if the music is tinny or if the singing isn't the greatest - I must admit I am not partial to every voice on here, but for sheer originality, verve and incredible excitement then what's better? This is O'Brien's vision and Tim Curry is a marvellous Frank-n-Furter . . . I just don't see whay people can moan about it - it's perfection! Check out Sweet Transvestite and Touch Me - they're the best ones on here.
