Rocky Balboa finisce in piedi un incontro con Apollo Creed, campione mondiale dei pesi massimi, tanto che molti del pubblico e dei cronisti chiacchierano sul verdetto. Comunque, essendo rimasto malconcio al naso e all'occhio sinistro, Rocky accetta i consigli dell'anziano suo allenatore Michey, annuncia il ritiro dalla boxe, sposa Adriana e investe nella casa i soldi della pingue borsa ottenuta. La moglie lo rende felice generando un figlio. Nel frattempo, però, il signor Balboa è stato costretto a cercare un lavoro fisso e, trovandosi sbarrate tutte le strade per una professione da impiegato a causa degli studi interrotti già durante le elementari, ha dovuto accettare favori umilianti e poco redditizi. Della situazione intende approfittare Apollo Creed che, raggiunto ormai il nome di "campione dei campioni", sente pesare sulla propria fama il neo del discusso verdetto di un anno prima. Sicuro anche che Rocky è ormai distrutto moralmente e fisicamente, oltre che in completa assenza di allenamenti, lo provoca a un incontro nel quale è sicuro di demolirlo definitivamente. Rocky, conoscendo la riluttanza di Adriana che tra l'altro è rimasta assai debole per il parto prematuro, riprende gli allenamenti senza convinzione, ancora sotto la direzione del fedele Michey. Tutto lascerebbe prevedere un disastro. Ma quando la stessa Adriana gli chiede di vincere per lei, Rocky afferra tutto il suo coraggio generoso e tutte le sue forze. L'incontro è assai drammatico ma Rocky ne esce campione del mondo dei massimi.

this is a brilliant film which in fact out of all the rocky films was the first one i saw, i saw this film first probably because it was better than the first, i thought that it was the first rocky film, but at the beginig it shows the first fight that Appolo has with Rocky, that made me want to watch the first one, and this made want to watch the third as it had such a good storyline, and kept the question in mind as to " what happens to rocky next, does he fight again or is there even another one", it turned out that there was another 3 more, and by viewing all of them its definetly one of the best by far!
