Product Description

Product Description

They'd soon crash, and hard, thanks to their own excesses. But Rocks captures Aerosmith at a crazily driven peak of creativity; anyone who heard it and continued to dismiss them as mere Stones clones was just being wilful. This is blues rock cranked up to 1970s stadium level, the sound of the Trans Am, or maybe the Porsches several of these guys (surprisingly) remember driving. The psychic battering they would succumb to on the next year's Draw the Line is foreshadowed in Joe Perry's "Combination", but he and Steven Tyler also celebrate the rock-star mythos on "Lick and a Promise." The party-fuelled tension, the tension-fuelled party. -- Rickey Wright

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Hard Rock Album Ever! 3 Oct 2000
By Nick C VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
On cold winter evenings when the wind howls around the house and leaves blow against the window trying to seek shelter from the storm, across the country rock fans gather around the warm glow of the fire, beer in hand, to discuss which album was the greatest hard rock album ever released. Was it the first Montrose album..possibly...Van Halen's?..maybe Zep 3? All worthy contenders until the mention of Aerosmith Rocks is whispered and all heads nod in appreciation. When it was released back in 1976 Aerosmith were arguably at their commercial and artistic height over in the old US of A. The band could do no wrong. This album is a fine testimony to that fact. Tie Gramps to the rocking chair coz when you put this baby on the sheer power is gonna make him fly up the chimney! Kicking off with the now legendary Back in the Saddle, the pace never lets up. The funky sass of Last Child is next followed immediately by Rats in the Cellar which will just blow you away with its frentic riffing and spat out lyrics, a classic. This is one album with atitude and it shoves it down your throat from start to finish. With hindsight we see today that Aerosmith, after a rocky (sic) time have again climbed back to the heights of success they so rightfully deserve and many Aerosmith fans may argue that maybe the album before this, Toys in the Attic, or later albums such as Pump,Permanent Vacation or Nine Lives are better...that'll always be debatable. But for sheer unbridled aggression and white knuckle thrills there is no other album like it. Buy and grin inanely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb 16 Sep 2001
Format:Audio CD
This is the is possibly the greatest rock album of all time. From start to finish this is pure class with no low points. Back in The Saddle is one of my fave Aero tracks and is a great start to the album. Rats, Combination and Sick As A Dog are all very cool and Combination has a rhythm section at the end that will send you wild! Lick and A Promise, Get the Lead Out And Home Tonight are all really cool typically Aero songs and Nobody's Fault is just 100% Hard ROCK!!!!!! Buy this or you will miss out on a great experience in your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars It ain't big, it ain't clever but ... 28 July 2001
Format:Audio CD
This album shows Aerosmith at a frightening creative peak, they created what is possibly the hardest-hitting, funkiest, and goddamn badass album around. The sheer sleaze that oozes out of every riff, the cigarette drenched yowl of Steven Tyler, this is music to soundtrack a junkie but totally fascinating and enjoyable at the same time.

The three highest points on this album are Last Child, Nobody's Fault and Get The Lead Out. Last Child was rightly described by Joe Perry as, "Aerosmith at our most funky, we were listening to stuff like The Meters at the time." A sexy riff that continues throughout the song save for chorus and solo and the closest that blues has ever gotten to being mastered by white people. The start of Nobody's Fault is calm with a slightly gothic organ setting the tone before the guitar races out and smacks you across the face. Astounding heavy metal done better than Metallica! And Get The Lead Out just wins prizes for a great rock 'n roll tune. Pretty simple really.

Other songs worth a mention are the brutal Back In The Saddle and the moving Home Tonight.

A piece of rock history, Aerosmith before their demise and firing on all cylinders. Buy, I urge you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never better 23 July 2010
Format:Audio CD
Aerosmith have rightly claimed their space in the history of Rock 'n' Roll as America's greatest ever band. This album is indispensable. If you are a fan of guitar driven rock music, then 'Rocks' is a must have. The band make it sound so effortless. There are no floors, no filler, not a single wasted second.

The best advice one can give is if you've heard Aerosmith's music such as 'Love in an Elevator' or 'Rag Doll or maybe 'Jaded', then there's no doubt you'll adore all of rocks. If you're undecided on whether to buy it, for the price, what harm can it do?

I love the sound of groups hitting their peak, and though Aerosmith have produced some wonderful moments since, 'Rocks' is their masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aerosmith, Rocks- yes they do!!! 21 Feb 2010
By Mr Blackwell TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Following on from the platignum selling TOYS IN THE ATTIC this is amagnificent album from start to finish, possibly as a result of the polished commercial sheen on the aforementioned Toys... disc, this has a heavier outlook and a superb production which hones the razorsharp guitars of Whitford/Perry whilst emphasing the outstanding rythmn section of Kramer/Hamilton.

Opening with probably my least favourite track on the album,'Back In The Saddle' Tylers reptitive screeching a bit irritating but all is forgiven when Perry's guitar solos flit in and out, meandering from ear to ear(listen with the headphones),the funky 'Last Child' is just superb and the rock n roll one two of 'Rats.... & Combination' raise the spirits further, the latter being a unsung song in the bands history.

'Sick as a Dog' and the outstanding 'Nobody's Fault' emphasise just how heavy this band could be,while 'Get The Lead Out' is a typical throwaway track, which proabaly inspired Van Halen's recording ideas, slap it down in 5 mins ,stick on the tape, move on to the next track, and in this case what a track,'Lick And A Promise' easily one of the best struttin swaggering anthems they ever done, then to top it of another power ballad, the magnificent 'Home Tonight',god this band could do no wrong, how typical that we didnt know that this would be the last classic Aerosmith album for some time.

Just a side note, must have been a great time to work at the record plant NYC,Aerosmith doin ROCKS,KISS upstairs doing Destroyer! and BOC down the hall completing AGENTS OF FORTUNE!!.Fantastic.
