The only live album that's better than this is 'Smell of Female', also by the Cramps.
Woody Allen once said that he was proud of a few things in his life, and one of them was seeing the Cramps. They were the best live band I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. I saw them three times - the Studio in Bristol, Brixton, and the Astoria - all unforgetable. What an act. Don't think anybody can ever equal them let alone better them.
I'm surprised there's never been an official Cramps concert DVD, apart from the Napa State Mental Hospital one. I wish Ivy would produce one (as well a doing a tour - instrumental blues, rockabilly, garage ... or maybe she could do one with Wanda Jackson ...)
Totally agree with the other reviewer - 'Heartbreak Hotel' is the biz!

I bought this album on vinyl on it's release in 1987. Fantastic stuff. I've seen the Cramps live twice, both during their 1986 tour of the UK. Once in the Hammersmith Odeon and the other in the Hammersmith Palais. The one in the Palais was an insane experience and this album is the only thing that comes close to it.......... Buy it now !!!!!! If only for Heartbreak Hotel !!

it helps if you've seen them live 4 Dec. 2002

OK, the sound quality on this isn't the best, but it ain't half bad either. Not quite as good as Smell of Female. The psychotic CRAMPS energy is definitely there, manifested by massive chunks of guitar spew and big drum beats and Lux's maniacally musical vocals. Having seen them live I can picture what was happening on stage when this was recorded, and it must have been a blast of a show. Definitely recommended for Cramps fans.

The Cramps - 'Rockin' & Reelin' In Auckland, NZ' (Vengeance) 1 Nov. 2004
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
SMOKING!! I've been wanting to get a copy of 'Rockin' & Reelin'' for a few months now. Was recorded at the Galaxy in Aukland, New Zealand on August 30, 1986. Notice the recording has some fuzz and slight distortion intact, but maybe the producer of the disc meant for it to be that way. Really doesn't deter from the quality of the CD, at least I didn't think so. A lot of this live set draws from the band's 'Date With Elvis' album. Lux, Ivy & crew rip through a set of classic rambunctious psycho-billy as ONLY they can. So many upbeat tracks to mention here, like "Hot Pearl Snatch", "Sunglasses After Dark", an Elvis cover of "Heartbreak Hotel", "Do The Clam" and "Can Your Pussy Do The Dog". The three bonus cuts tagged on are okay. Better than their 'Smell Of Female' CD (see my review of that disc). A must-have for any true Cramps fan.
yes! its worth it. 26 Aug. 2009

this record is good considering its their only live album that plays released material up 'till A Date with Elvis LP. the sound quality is better on this reissue of the record, and its on orange clear vinyl! great for any CRAMPS fan. the record plays out like a live show, that you would go to and watch. and for this reason, this record is great to have for your Cramps record collection! so BUY it already!!
ONE OF MY FAVOURITE CRAMPS 28 Feb. 2013

Live The Cramps (no, never actually saw them) seem almost better than in their studio recordings because so much more energy is allowed to overflow. I believe this album is from the mid-80s, sounds fantastic & simply includes great interpretations of some of their best: 'The Hot Pearl Snatch', 'People Ain't no Good', 'Sunglasses at Night' 'Blue Moon Baby', no I will not read the entire list.
Great Live Album 13 Jan. 2014

So this is one, of two, official live albums the Cramps released, the other being Smell of Female. This was the Date With Elvis Tour, and most of the songs are off that album. The red vinyl is aesthetically pleasing.
