[Rockin'] should interest anyone passionate about retro styles and music that oozes vagabond cool. --The EDGE

Rockin' is Andrew Shaylor's intimate portrait of the modern rockabilly world on both sides of the Atlantic... --Sunday Times

The images in this book look fantastic, Shaylor has managed to capture the essence and fine detail of the Rockin scene from an outsiders perspective.

...you can almost smell the grease wafting off the pages.

Shaylor has turned his passion of capturing sub cultures into a visual pleasure for the rest of us. For that he must be applauded. --Magik City

A series of iconic images that he's assembled to capture the very spirit of the rockabilly scene…Shaylor has created a montage of photos that transport you into the world of rockabillies. With his photos you get to experience every emotion of the rockabilly weekender. From the wild exuberance, to the fatigue crash, it's all here.

To the rockabilly fan, it's cool to see pictures of the people who make up the scene...But the book holds an interest for a wider audience too. Anyone who is interested in people can enjoy this book. --Rockabilly Romp

It's all about the music, and Andrew Shaylor captures the sounds of Rockabilly in his tight shots --Whom You Know

A book of wonderful photos.

A series of iconic images that he's assembled to capture the very spirit of the rockabilly scene.

I find it fascinating that in a world where we all have cameras and anyone can take a picture, there are people out there who know how to make pictures in a way that most of us can't. People who know how to make a picture that tells stories...Shaylor has created a montage of photos that transport you into the world of rockabillies.

Product Description

For enthusiasts, rockabilly isn't just a kind of music; it's a way of life. A raw fusion of rhythm and blues with country and western, rockabilly heralded the start of teenage rebellion in America in the early 1950s. The stripped-down sound witnessed a revival in the 1970s that has continued until today, with modern rockabillies embracing not only the music, but also the clothes, cars and lifestyle of the 1950s youth counterculture. Rockin' is photographer Andrew Shaylor's unique portrayal of the contemporary rockabilly scene. Granted exclusive access at events on both sides of the Atlantic, Shaylor captures the raw energy of the music and the commitment of the rockabilly community to authenticity. Featuring the history of the subculture by rockabilly legend Jerry Chatabox, this striking book evokes the passion and intensity of a scene that is as exciting today as it was more than 50 years ago.

Absolutely essential 13 April 2011
Format:Hardcover
Essentially a photobook, this gives outsiders and fans of the current Rockabilly scene a glimpse of the fans, bands and events that make up the rockin` scene. Great photos, well produced. This is the equivalent of The Teds book from 1979 for old and new rockabilly fans. This book should be in every library in the land. There`s a vibrant musical scene out there and, while it owes a lot to the 1950`s, is very much of today. It`s fun, and in todays pressurised world innocent fun is what we all need. Use this book as a starting point and then discover the music, old and new, on CD, record and DVD. You won`t regret it, once a Rocker always a Rocker. Buy this book now! Hopefully the definitive story of the 1970`s / 1980`s Rockabilly revival will be writen soon, there`s a challenge to authors!!
