With 3 CDs of regional music from Wisconsin-mostly straight from the Cuca label-this is the one which included the original Muleskinner Blues by the Fendermen-a single which became a hit almost by accident and enabled the group to become Prime Members of the One Hit Wonder Club with what was a remake done by the label which purchased the master-Soma.Apparantly no problem at the time as Cuca had not actually signed them but would have more difficulty in the future having to sue for back royalties-which they got and which was ploughed back into the business thus more artists.
Wisconsin as the 3 CDs emphasise in the sleeve notes, was nowhere near a center for rock'n'roll-its main music was Polkas!
So this is all about musical failure. Its about early garage bands influenced by Gene Vincent and its about time standing still as there was not that much influence from the British Invasion
The Fendermen had at least lasting careers in spite of their One Hit Wonder status.A few others went into country music and there was just one Hot Boppin Girl in Karen Wells-who was wonderfully off key and had only cut the single because of her parents hoping to turn her into Brenda Lee
Great stuff!
