* "Rockin' Connie" spotlights the up-tempo side of the artist whose incredible 56 entries on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 mark her as the biggest-selling female of her day. Perhaps best known for her sentimental ballads, Connie recorded in a variety of styles, and for every `Among My Souvenirs' in her vast catalogue there exists a terrific rocker like `Gonna Git That Man', `Kiss `n' Twist' or `I'm Gonna Be Warm This Winter'.
* Connie had been singing songs such as `I'm Walkin'' in her stage act since 1957 and with her boyfriend Bobby Darin she frequently visited the Apollo Theater in Harlem to see James Brown, Ray Charles and LaVern Baker, whose performances ensured that she was well schooled in the art of R&B.
* Tunes such as `Hollywood', `Johnny Darlin'' and `Robot Man' show that she had an intuitive feel for rock'n'roll. Drawn from the period 1957 to 1966, Ace's compilation includes cult favourites `Fallin'', `Eighteen' and `Valentino', obscure gems `Love Eyes', `Lollipop Lips' and `It's A Different World' and two songs co-written by the recently departed Ellie Greenwich.
* Compilation and sleevenotes by Mick Patrick.

Great Stuff!,

Great sound quality, great booklet, great cd (thanks 'Ace Records' a great job as usual). This cd contains many of Connie's uptempo numbers as the title suggests - Rockin' Connie. For me, this is where Connie was at her very best (and not singing ballads that seem to come from a bygone age.) On the whole tracks 2-8 aren't my cup of tea but from track 9 'Robot Man' onwards this cd comes alive - fantastic. There are so many great tracks, 'Look at him' is brilliant, as are 'Warm this winter', 'what ever happened to Rosemarie' and 'Don't ever leave me'. However my favourite track is the wonderful 'My best friend barbara'. I actually think this cd is better than a greatest hits cd. Buy it now!

Fantastic CD!,
This review is from: Rockin' Connie (Audio CD)
After all the more-or-less identical Greatest Hits compilations (and, yes, Miss Francis did certainly have a lot of great hits, but they're all on CD already), this is a great addition to any CD collection. The wonderful Connie Francis shows that she can rock with the best of them. Some of my favorites are "Fallin'" (which makes you wonder why Universal didn't do anything with it - they could have had a hit with promotion for free), "Hearts Of Stone", "Come On Jerry", "I Won't Be Home To You" (Miss F is really belting out this one), "Your Other Love", "Souvenirs", "Don't Ever Leave Me" (Sensational track!) etc etc. Sound quality is superb and the booklet is a real treat: great liner notes, great photos. Along with Germany's "Cocktail Connie", concentrating on Connie's overlooked "adult" repertoire, this certainly is the best release of 2009. And - this one is not only for the Francis collectors, it should appeal to a broad range of music lovers. I hope that Ace will dig out more of those forgotten gems by the greatest female singer of our time.

This review is from: Rockin' Connie (Audio CD)
Legendary Songbird CONNIE FRANCIS is Rockin' Connie on this 28 track CD[produced by the most excellent ACE Records]. The songs chosen['57-'66]
include many great recordings not often seen on other cd compilations of Connie's. Rockers on here include,"FALLIN'","HEARTBREAK HOTEL","AIN'T THAT A SHAME","HEARTS OF STONE","HOLLYWOOD","AIN'T THAT BETTER BABY","KISS"N"TWIST", "I'M GONNA BE WARM THIS WINTER","LOLLIPOP LIPS","SOUVENIRS",amongst many other classics. Also included is a most excellent 24 page booklet, detailing fully about the chosen 28 songs, with many wonderful photos of Connie's singles,EPs,LPs,. Altogether this is a well thoughtout CD package of Connie Francis tunes as is always the case with ACE Records. Regards,Bill.
