5.0 out of 5 stars A detailed and fascinating look at Croydon music history, 12 July 2008
This review is from: Rockin' and Around Croydon: Rock, Folk, Blues and Jazz in and Around the Croydon Area 1960-1980 (Paperback)
As a local, I recall the tail-end of the musical events described in this book, a feast of details of performers and shows laid on all over the Croydon area between 1960 and 1980. These are interspersed with news paper clippings, articles and interviews with some of the performers who are still local to the area, like Matthew Fisher (Procol Harum) and Francis Rossi (Status Quo). My personal favourite bits in the book are about the great American blues shows that came to the Fairfield Halls during the 60s. It's a shame the book only goes to 1980, because there have been some great shows since, like BB King (1985), Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison at the Fairfield Halls. Incidentally, what's happened to the quality of the bookings at the Fairfield in recent years since the 80s? Why aren't some good contemporary bands getting booked in to play here? What a sad plight to such a great sounding venue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, 7 Jun 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rockin' and Around Croydon: Rock, Folk, Blues and Jazz in and Around the Croydon Area 1960-1980 (Paperback)
Being an expatriate living in Chicago I found the book to be wonderfull reading. Especially being a musician and being Roy Budds unknown brother, which is quite funny really as I'm mentioned in there a few times but as Roy's brother or his brother Ian. "Ian"? But it is a great book and if anyone really wants to know about the history of British rock, buy it!

This review is from: Rockin' and Around Croydon: Rock, Folk, Blues and Jazz in and Around the Croydon Area 1960-1980 (Paperback)

If you were around and about in Croydon during the sixties, this book is a great trip down memory lane ! What a great time it was to be alive - and what a fantastic place Croydon was for live gigs in those days... magic !
