Product Description

Feature-length adventure from the educational animated children's series. When a nasty ogre kidnaps Rocket's new friend, Firebird, it's up to Rocket, Leo, June, Quincy and Annie to travel to Russia to set her free and bring music back to the world.

From Amazon.co.uk

The Little Einsteins are a talented group of musically-inclined, preschool-age friends who just happen to have a rocket ship named Rocket for a friend and a knack for helping those in need. In this animated adventure, it's up to Leo, Annie, Quincy, and June to preserve music around the world by traveling to Russia to free the magical Firebird from the grip of a music-hating ogre named Katschai. Set to themes from Igor Stravinsky's "Firebird" and featuring the art of Wassily Kandinsky, Faberge eggs, and Matryoshka Nesting Dolls, this full-length Little Einsteins adventure conveys the basic gist of Stravinsky's "Firebird" ballet in which the Firebird casts a spell of energetic dance and sleep upon the creatures of a magical kingdom. Prominent musical themes are emphasized by linking them to specific onscreen characters and their actions and basic musical terms like adagio and allegro are introduced while the Little Einsteins promote friendship, cooperation, and compassion and engage the active participation of young viewers by encouraging them to clap, sing, dance, and pretend to play musical instruments. The bonus episode "Rocket Soup" emphasizes teamwork and introduces orchestral instruments with the help of Dvorak's "Humoresque No. 7" and Paul Klee's painting "Moonrise." Engage the "Magic Mission Mode" and children can view "Rocket's Firebird Rescue" with animated pop-up facts.(Ages 3 to 7)--Tami Horiuchi

My four-year-old daughter loves the Firebird sequence at the end of Fantasia 2000 [DVD] and listens to the Firebird score endlessly. I searched Amazon for a DVD version of the ballet and found this Little Einsteins DVD which seemed a good bargain. What a great idea! It's a little more age-appropriate than the ballet, and she is absolutely delighted with it, and her sister (15 months) claps her hands when she hears the music. There's little point reviewing the non-plot (Rocket rescues the Firebird from the evil ogre and everyone lives happily ever after, even the ogre), but the DVD offers plenty of scope for talking with her about the way the same music can be used to tell two different stories (Fantasia's fairy tale with the firebird as antagonist or the Little Einstein's firebird rescue story with the firebird as a generally meek character), and looking at pictures of Fabergé eggs, Matryoshka dolls and Russian architecture. Highly recommended.

My son is 2 years old and loves Little Einsteins - this is the only thing that keeps him quiet for half an hour. It's also very educational.

Delivery took longer than usual, but was still within the estimated time so can't complain about that. Ordered two different Little Einsteins dvds, one was with English accents (this one) and the other with American accents. Really wish Amazon would state which are which. In our family we prefer the American accents, but it's not so much the English accents on this dvd that annoys me, it's the bad sound editing. Every five minutes or so the sound will suddenly go down a couple of nothces, as if someone was stood behind you ready to put a bucket over your head. Then, after 10-15 seconds of the sound being thus muffled, it goes back to the orginal volume setting. Rather annoying. The Little Einsteins story is OK. It's one long episode, as opposed to the other dvd that has 3 shorter ones. This one features the music of Stravinsky (I guessed as much from the title) and the art of Kandinsky, neither of which are among my favourites, but never mind, it's for my son and I'm sure he doesn't mind! The educational value of the film is, as always with the Little Einsteins, great.

My 3 and a half-year old son found the "Rocket's Firebird Rescue" movie very scary and he refused to watch it to the end. I had never seen him so scared when watching a children's movie before. The bonus episode "Rocket Soup" is OK, but not great.

In my capacity as an early years educator this is my favourite pre school show. It's fantastic on every level . The vocabulary isn't dumbed down for them with exclamations like "wow this is palatial ".
Pseudo classical songs created to match soundtrack are simple and catchy.
Encourages creative development by asking children to sing along.
Encourages problem solving and reasoning by asking children to answer questions based on the narrative.
And encourages the physical development of your child by running physical actions alongside the narrative. These encourage control of gross motor skills.
Finally encourages excellent vocabulary.

My 3 year old loves it . She sits for hours doing it. And I am happy in the knowledge that its an influential kids show for her that's not going to fill her head with rubbish.
Excellent learning tool - absolutely recommend

My 2-year old has been captivated by the Firebird episode. She talks about it and hums Stravinsky all the time. Very exciting. We tend to watch it as a family. You won't regret buying this one. UK voices.

These dvds help to keep my 2 and half year old busy all day even if he repeats them over and over again. It has been a great help for his educational development as well as it has improved his vocabulary.

My two and a half year old son LOVES this movie. We're fans of the Little Einsteins anyway, but he's started asking for the Russia movie specifically. The other episode on the DVD is Rocket Soup -- also fab. My son is a picky eater, but now eats soup because Rocket likes soup. Bonus!
