5.0 out of 5 stars redemption 11 April 2011
By C.Elder
Format:DVD
This is not the greatest film ever made, but it is a very amusing and satisfying take on the world of rock n'roll, with an unusual starting point.
Rock band dumps enthusiastic but inconsistent drummer in order to hit it big,and then does make it big.But dumped drummer, betrayed by the disloylaty, never gets over it.He watches the inexorable rise of his ex-band in the ensuing 20 years(who funnily all develop English accents along the way), while his life is a series of dead end experiences,as he feels cheated by the world.
But,just when it seems he can fall no further, by chance he comes across a small trio(geek;nerdy songwriter;abrasive girl) 20 years his junior who have no real ambition, but make good music and need a drummer. The story is really entertaining as 40 year old drummer gets to live life on the road once more,be young, and do it all over again, only this time....anyway, get the dvd to see what happens, you won't be disappointed. Unlike many films about rock, the music is actually good, and the cathartic moment near the end of the film is priceless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good fun 14 Nov 2010

Don't take this film seriously because its not trying to be serious. If you enjoyed Jack Black in School of Rock ... you will love this. Raine Wilson has that same level of infectious enthusiasm in his character Robert Fishman (aka Fish). This is a hugely entertaining story about an ageing rocker who has had a chip on his shoulder for 20 years since he got bombed out of a metal band on the cusp of making it big. His life having spiralled into complete decline and dossing in his sister's loft, he agrees to bail his nephew out of a spot of bother and fill in for the errant drummer in his high school prom band. This re-ignites the spark in Fish and triggers a series of events that lead him face to face at a gig with the band who originally ditched him. Some good performances all round and a few appearances by the gorgeous Christina Applegate playing one of mothers.

Good film, good soundtrack - watch it, you wont regret it.
