5.0 out of 5 stars Grinding good stuff... 1 Dec 2004
Format:Audio CD
It's very debatable as to what is the best Skint single this week, either the new return-to-form cut from Fatboy Slim, or this grinding, squelching, angry-sounding synthy trance single. Alter Ego haven't been heard of for years, and then they offer us this ~ where have they been when we needed them?
It's a fairly simple but brilliant keyboard riff they've invented for us, using a great set of sounds. The track really works as a dancefloor number too. Out of the remixes, Eric Prydz does nothing at all to it, the dub is a little more disjointed, Erol Alkan and Plasticman (NOT Richie Hawtin) do some similar-but-good remixes, while someone called Earl Shilton does the obvious and turns it into an angry metallic guitar instrumental.
There's nothing sounding like this in the shops this Xmas. There probably hasn't been a distinctive cut in this style this good since Moguai's U Know Y. If that put a smile on your face, this CD is bound to do the same - it's great value for money too. Just don't tell the Sugababes about it...

4.0 out of 5 stars Alter Ego - Rocker 10 Mar 2011
By scoundrel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Alter Ego's ROCKER gained quite a bit of notoriety -- it's slamming beat and grinding propulsion has all the makings of a dancefloor stormer (if the speakers can handle the high-pitch squeals, that is). On these mixes, Eric Prydz regulates the beat some, to make it much more straightforward, takes out the harsher high tones, and adds a more pleasant melodic line. The dub mix goes crazy with the reverb (no surprise there, really), while Erol Alkan adds some crowd sounds (and a mystery scream) but doesn't mess too much with the original. Plasticman takes a few more liberties, slowing the track down with some minimal breaks and alternating the squelches until the track sounds like the inside of an electronic insect farm. Earl Shilton takes the title "Rocker" a bit more literally and throws in some grinding electric guitars. Personally, I prefer the original, but would probably be more likely to dance to the Eric Prydz mix.
5.0 out of 5 stars First KRAFTWERK, now ALTER-EGO 14 Jun 2005
By E. Orlando - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I am picky about techno music, but ALTER-EGO practically blew my mind. They are sophisticated, beautiful and cutting-edge. There is nobody out there (except KRAFTWERK, if that counts) who has Alter-ego's super-natural, genious techno skills. Alter-ego makes famous English techno DJ's sound terribly mediocre. Alter-ego is the future of electronic dance music. Just listen to "Rocker" you'll be blown away!! 5 stars across the board. No questions asked.
