If you're new to Deborah's solo material or if you already own these albums, you'll be asking "is this set worth buying?". In my opinion, the answer is a resounding "yes!".
Not only have both albums been digitally re-mastered but the packaging is truly superb! A slipcased double jewel case contains a 24 page booklet with a very detailed new 2010 biography of Deborah's career (by John O'Regan) together with all the lyrics, credits and photo's. The care taken with both this set and BGO's previous 'Koo Koo / Def, Dumb & Blonde' reissue, is clearly evident.
The only drawback is that both reissues use the original vinyl album track listings. As a result, 'Debravation' remains at 12 tracks - as opposed to the 2005 14 track 'Wounded Bird' US reissue; 'Def, Dumb & Blonde' is a mere 11 tracks - whereas the original CD releases were expanded to 15 tracks, and 'Koo Koo' omits any of the extra remixes that accompanied the original CD versions.
However, this may be explained by licensing issues (?) and in any event only serves to make these sets more interesting for the collectors amongst us. And, as previously stated, the beautiful packaging more than makes up for it.
The music itself sounds clear and vibrant and although Deborah's solo output tries hard to move away from the 'Blondie' sound, any fan of her famous band will certainly not be disapointed.
Highly recommended!
